How it fits the AI era
The work sits directly in the AI era because the product exists to feed live web knowledge to AI agents and models. Much of the craft stays human: choosing signals, designing evaluations, and judging what truly improves search quality. AI tools may speed up experiments, but the decisions about quality and tradeoffs remain with the engineer.
How it builds AI experience
Someone here would gain hands on practice training and serving retrieval and ranking models, running evaluations, and tuning latency and GPU cost. They would also learn how search quality is measured for AI consumers rather than people. Building this experience means working with retrieval and ranking systems in production and getting comfortable with rigorous evaluation methods.
