Who we are

The food industry solved a problem that defined most of human history: calories are cheap, and hunger has collapsed. But making food affordable also made it worse. Eating real food every day is now a luxury most people can't afford. We're building Eridale to make great food more accessible. AI and robotics let us run restaurants at a fraction of the cost of a traditional chain, and and those savings let us serve better ingredients at a lower price. The people who do well here take full ownership of their work, care deeply about craft, and operate at every level of detail. They're here to do the best work of their career. If that's not you, this won't be fun.

We’re backed by Founders Fund and OpenAI.

The role

You’ll join the founding team as the first full-time mechanical engineer, and own a wide range of projects, end-to-end.

We do not care about degrees. We care about what you’ve built and shipped. A portfolio is mandatory (photos, CAD screenshots, test data, videos, writeups — anything that shows what you’ve worked on).

What you get to do

Create new modules to expand our tech’s capabilities

  • Own the mechanical architecture of new robot modules and systems, including motion systems, structures, enclosures, mounts, interfaces…
  • Take concepts from sketch to CAD, build prototypes, iterate, and validate with test plans and data
  • Design for reliability, serviceability, safety, and cleanliness in a food environment

Improve our existing modules

  • Develop and improve features on existing modules and machines
  • Use test results, build issues, and feedback from operation and maintenance to improve reliability, serviceability, and manufacturability
  • Debug mechanical issues, run root-cause analysis, and implement and validate corrective actions

Help set up our first manufacturing plant

  • Prepare designs for repeatable production: drive DFM/DFA with suppliers and create drawings, tolerances, GD&T, and release packages
  • Help define assembly processes, tooling and fixtures, work instructions, and quality checks for our machines
  • Support initial builds and production ramp, resolve assembly issues, and help scale machines to meaningful production volume (hundreds of units)

Work across the whole stack

  • Partner daily with electrical/electronics/software so mechanical decisions support sensors, wiring, compute, and controls
  • Anticipate system integration issues (EMI, heat, cabling, routing, access, calibration) before they become problems

Improve cost and quality

  • Build and manage BOMs; optimize cost without sacrificing performance

Who we are looking for

Must-haves (deal-breakers):

  • 5+ years experience as a mechanical engineer shipping complex machines with moving parts
  • Proven track record delivering hardware from concept to production (not only one-off prototypes) on products that have moving parts.
  • Strong CAD skills (Solidworks or equivalent)
  • Hands-on experience building and testing prototypes, diagnosing mechanical failures, and improving production hardware
  • Practical understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • You’ve playing with AI or used it professionally. And you’re excited to leverage it for your work
  • Strong English (written and spoken) is required

Strong signals we value:

  • You’ve worked on machines that reached real production volume (hundreds of units)
  • Experience industrializing hardware or helping set up assembly processes, tooling, fixtures, and production tests
  • Experience in food-industry equipment (sanitation constraints, reliability, service, safety)
  • Experience with injection-molded parts (design, tooling tradeoffs, shrink/warp, tolerance stackups)
  • Experience doing cost optimization / value engineering on production hardware

Who you are:

  • You take ownership end-to-end — from understanding the problem to making sure the solution works in production
  • You stay focused on what matters most, make practical tradeoffs, and prefer building, testing, and iterating over waiting for the perfect design
  • You think from first principles, make your assumptions explicit, and change your mind when the data says you should
  • You communicate openly, document decisions and test results, and disagree directly when someth
