Role Summary:

Due to ongoing growth and strategic expansion, our Client is seeking an experienced Senior Power Test Engineer to lead the development and testing of power electronics and battery systems destined for spaceflight. This role is pivotal in ensuring the reliability and robustness of critical hardware under simulated mission conditions. The position provides an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to cutting-edge space projects, supporting the design validation processes that bring hardware from concept to flight readiness.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and configure test benches for batteries, power modules, and associated control systems, including fixtures, instrumentation, and safety infrastructure.
  • Automate testing procedures through scripting to streamline data acquisition, control sequences, and data analysis workflows.
  • Implement mission-specific test scenarios, including thermal, vacuum, vibration, and cycling profiles, based on mission requirements-no space background necessary.
  • Lead qualification campaigns, ensuring hardware withstands environmental stresses such as thermal extremes, vacuum conditions, and mechanical vibrations.
  • Manage and enhance the in-house cell testing laboratory, including thermal chambers, safety systems, and collaboration with suppliers.
  • Analyse test data to identify failure modes and guide iterative hardware improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practice measurement techniques in high-voltage and high-current environments.
  • An engineering degree (MSc or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years' practical experience in test engineering within the electronics or power systems sector.
  • Proven expertise testing batteries or power electronics, including experience with cyclers, thermal chambers, and electronic loads.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python or comparable languages for test automation and data processing.
  • Deep understanding of measurement techniques, high-current and high-voltage safety practices, sensing, wiring, and grounding.
  • Autonomous operation of lab tools such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and electronic loads.
  • Analytical mindset with a proactive approach, excellent communication skills, and a curiosity-driven attitude.
  • Professional proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Experience working within aerospace, satellite, or other high-reliability industries.
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion cell chemistry, including aging, safety test protocols, and health monitoring techniques (ACIR/DCIR, EIS).
  • Familiarity with environmental testing standards and procedures.
  • Experience testing power electronics assemblies.
  • Competency with laboratory data management, databases, and data pipeline tools.
  • Experience with test frameworks such as LabVIEW or TestStand.
