About the Company

Established in 2017, Infinite Orbits is a NewSpace company, based in Toulouse, pushing the boundaries of in-orbit services with cutting-edge spacecraft driven by its own Rendez-Vous solution, an advanced Autonomous Vision-Based Navigation Solution. IO has two generations of missions

  • "Orbit Guard" provides Inspection and Space Situational Awareness services in GEO.

  • "Endurance" is a docking service capable of extending the life of GEO telecom satellites, by taking over AOCS takeover for 5 years.

About the Role

As part of setting up a new embedded space software development workshop, we are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer specialized in space applications.

Their main mission will be to develop a first representative embedded software, intended to run on a real onboard computer, by applying the methods, tools, and development, test, and validation rules defined in the new workshop.

This first piece of software will notablyinvolve implementing the PUS 1 – Telecommand Verification Serviceand PUS 17 – Test Serviceservices, in line with the requirements and profiles applicable to the project.

The candidate must therefore be able to develop functional software quickly, while working from the outset within a framework compatible with ECSS and ISO 9001 practices, as well as the quality rules defined by the company.

Job Description

  • Development:

    • Analyze the interfaces and constraints of the available onboard computer.

    • Define the necessary software architecture.

    • Implement the PUS 1 and PUS 17 services.

    • Develop functions in C and/or Rust, according to the architecture and rules defined by the workshop.

    • Develop test tools and scripts in Python.

    • Integrate the software onto the target computer.

    • Carry out the first functional tests on the actual hardware.

    • Quickly diagnose and fix issues encountered.

  • Working within the new workshop: The candidate will be one of the first operational users of the innovative development workshop.

  • Good knowledge of the CCSDS / ECSS Packet Utilization Standard (PUS)ecosystem is important for this role.

  • Hands-on experience with PUS 1 and/or PUS 17would obviously be a major advantage.

  • Validation on real equipment and simulation

  • AI and accelerated development: however, the software produced must remain fully under the engineer's control.

Requirements

  • Engineering or university degree in computer science, electronics, embedded systems, or equivalent.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in embedded software development; I would personally be more flexible on seniority for this role than for the other two positions.

  • Very strong command of C.

  • Experience with Rust strongly appreciated.

  • Very strong command of Python for automation and testing.

  • Experience developing on microprocessors / microcontrollers / embedded computers.

  • Experience with cross-compilation and integration on real targets.

  • Good knowledge of Git and modern software development practices.

  • Experience with test automation.

  • Understanding of software/hardware validation challenges.

  • Knowledge of CCSDS / ECSS / PUS strongly appreciated.

  • Experience with embedded space software is a significant advantage.

  • Professional-level English.

  • French nationality is required due to restricted-access projects.

Highly valued

  • PUS experience, especially PUS 1 / PUS 17.

  • Experience with RTOS or bare-metal environments.

  • Experience with Software-in-the-Loop / Hardware-in-the-Loop environments.

What we offer

  • The opportunity to be part of an international team transforming the space industry.

  • A creative and innovative work environment where ideas turn into reality.

  • Competitive salary and benefits.
