Legal Counsel (Paris / Barcelona)
As Legal Counsel, you will join papernest's small Legal team and report directly to the Head of Legal & DPO, with 360° view of the group's legal and regulatory matters. A true business partner, you will work hand in hand with our operational, product, marketing and finance teams in France and Spain. No two days look the same: you will move from a partnership negotiation to a regulatory question, a GDPR review or a new Legal process, and take ownership of your files end to end.
Contract: permanent (CDI / contrato indefinido)
Location: Paris (19th arr.) or Barcelona; French law expertise is required in both cases
Start date: as soon as possible
What you will do
Your core focus will be contracts, data protection, legal operations and regulatory compliance; you will also support corporate and litigation matters.
Contracts & partnerships
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements in French and English: distribution and partnership agreements, lead‑generation and affiliation deals, outsourced call‑center (BPO) contracts, SaaS and supplier agreements, NDAs
- Advise business teams throughout the life of their partnerships, from structuring a new deal to managing a renegotiation, a dispute or an exit
Data protection
- Support the DPO on GDPR compliance in France and Spain: records of processing, data processing agreements, international transfers, data subject requests
- Embed privacy by design in new products and projects, including AI‑based features
Legal operations
- Improve existing Legal processes and tools (request intake, templates, guidelines, contract management) and help design new ones, including AI‑based tools
- Keep templates, guidelines and internal documentation up to date so that business teams can work autonomously
- Raise legal awareness and train business teams on key topics
Regulatory compliance
- Secure the compliance of papernest's activities with consumer law, insurance distribution rules (ORIAS, ACPR, IDD) and energy regulation
- Review websites, customer acquisition journeys, offers and marketing campaigns across the markets where we operate
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and turn them into clear, pragmatic recommendations for the teams
- Take part in exchanges with regulators and public authorities
Corporate & litigation
- Manage corporate housekeeping for French entities and international subsidiaries: board and shareholder decisions, filings, registers
- Contribute to corporate transactions and employee equity plans
- Coordinate pre‑litigation and litigation matters with external counsel across several jurisdictions
Who you are
- You hold a Master's degree (M2) in French business law; admission to the bar and/or a business school degree are a plus
- You have 2 to 4 years of experience as a lawyer in a law firm and/or as an in‑house counsel, ideally with exposure to commercial contracts and regulatory matters; corporate experience is a plus
- You are fluent in French and English, both written and spoken; Spanish is a strong plus
- You are curious and enjoy handling a wide variety of topics, and you get up to speed quickly on new subjects and regulations
- You have a genuine appetite for business: you understand what the teams are trying to achieve and offer solutions, not just risks; you take a clear position and can defend your recommendation to managers and senior stakeholders
- You are at ease with digital products, data and AI tools
- You are pragmatic, autonomous and rigorous
