Job Description

About GE Vernova & Grid Solutions

GE Vernova is a global energy leader with over 130 years of experience. We are dedicated to electrifying the world while accelerating the transition to a decarbonized future. With 80,000+ employees across 140 countries, we provide the essential electricity needed for health, safety, and quality of life.

Our Grid Solutions business enables the transmission and distribution of energy. At our High Voltage Technology Research Center (HVTRC) in Villeurbanne, we design, test, and manufacture HV circuit breakers, focusing on cutting-edge R&D to secure the grid and achieve a sustainable, SF6-free energy future.

The Role

Our R&D team develops an internal multiphysics simulation software to model current and voltage interruption in modern HV equipment. This software is a critical technological pillar in our mission to develop environmentally friendly, high-performance equipment.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Technical Strategy & Architecture: Design the software architecture, defining technical roadmaps, data structures, and HPC parallelization strategies.
  • Project Leadership: Act as the primary technical point of contact for stakeholders. Manage project lifecycles, lead steering committees, and ensure consistent reporting while maintaining alignment with business objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Coordinate the technical team, manage resource planning, and foster a collaborative environment. Mentor junior engineers to drive technical excellence and professional growth within the team.
  • Core Development: Lead the development of the 2D/3D multiphysics solver (MHD, thermal radiation, ablation) using IBM/FVM methods and the AMReX framework.
  • Innovation & R&D: Drive the R&D roadmap, supervise collaborations with academic partners, and prototype innovative numerical approaches for arc plasma physics.
  • Code Excellence: Enforce "no-compromise" standards for unit testing, integration, code reviews, and technical documentation.

The Stack & Ecosystem

  • Numerical Methods: Immersed Boundary Method (IBM), Finite Volume Method (FVM), Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR via AMReX).
  • Performance (HPC): Shared/distributed memory parallelism, GPU acceleration.
  • Tools: C++ (17/20), Python, MPI, OpenMP, CUDA/HIP, PETSc, Kokkos.
  • Culture: Active R&D community, international academic partnerships, focus on publications and patents.

Profile Requirements

  • Education: PhD in Numerical Simulation (CFD, Fluid Mechanics, Applied Mathematics, Arc Plasma Physics, or equivalent).
  • Experience: 10+ years of post-doctoral experience in industrial simulation software development.
  • Leadership/Management: Proven experience in technical project management and team coordination within an R&D environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced C++/Python skills, strong grasp of HPC (MPI/OpenMP/GPU), and mastery of modern DevOps/CI/CD practices (Git, unit testing).
  • Soft Skills: Strong communicator, capable of bridging the gap between complex technical requirements and stakeholder expectations.
  • Language: Oral proficiency in French.

Why Join Us?

  • Impact: Work on critical industrial challenges at the intersection of high-performance computing and HV physical phenomena.
  • Career Growth: Clear path toward Principal Engineer or formal People Management roles.
  • Excellence: A culture that values technical rigor, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

Location: Villeurbanne (Lyon), France—a leading metropolitan area with high quality of life.
