We're looking for a VP, GFIG Coverage – Relationship Management for our Global Financial Institutions Group to join our team in Paris.

This role offers the opportunity to help expand SMBC’s Financial Institutions franchise across Southern and Eastern Europe, with a particular focus on clients headquartered in Spain and Italy. Working alongside senior GFIG bankers and product specialists across the global network, you will develop client relationships, originate multi-product opportunities, and coordinate transaction execution for banks, broker-dealers, and non-bank financial institutions.

About this role

The Global Financial Institutions Group provides relationship coverage and tailored financial solutions to banks, broker-dealers, insurers, funds, and other financial institutions through a multi-product and global approach. This role will support and, for selected names, lead client coverage across Southern and Eastern Europe, contributing to the continued growth of SMBC’s Financial Institutions business in the EU. As such, it is anticipated that there will be travels across the EU countries.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Acting as a key EU-based contact for an assigned portfolio of banks, broker-dealers, and non-bank financial institutions across Southern and Eastern Europe
  • Supporting and, for selected clients, leading relationship management, business origination, and the implementation of agreed client strategies
  • Supporting in or directly originating, structuring, and executing lending and broader banking opportunities with appropriate credit and risk oversight
  • Coordinating with Capital Markets, Treasury, Lending, Trade Finance, Structured Finance, Credit, Legal, Compliance, and Operations teams to deliver relevant client solutions
  • Managing transaction execution, KYC, credit processes, pipeline reporting, and ongoing monitoring for the assigned portfolio
  • Preparing client materials and supporting senior management meetings, industry conferences, and other strategic client engagements
  • Managing and developing junior colleagues while contributing to the team’s financial and operational objectives

The anticipated salary range for this role is€110,000 - €135,000, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.

Profile Description

For you to succeed in this role

  • Significant experience (6 to 8 years minimum) in Financial Institutions coverage, relationship management, corporate and investment banking, or a related client-facing role
  • Good knowledge of banks, broker-dealers, and non-bank financial institutions, ideally supported by existing relationships with relevant client counterparts
  • Strong understanding of credit and financial analysis, transaction structuring, and the origination and execution of lending or broader banking solutions
  • Degree-level education in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline
  • Fluency in English; French, Spanish, or Italian language skills would be advantageous
