OUR STORY:
Join Scaleway and shape the sovereign cloud of tomorrow
Since 1999, we have been designing secure, sustainable infrastructures aimed at supporting the most ambitious companies.
Historically known for our dedicated servers (Dedibox), we made a strategic shift to cloud computing in 2015. Staying true to our principles of simplicity, flexibility, and technical excellence, we have become one of the leading players in Europe in the sector.
With the rise of artificial intelligence, we have strengthened our commitment, supported by the Iliad Group, which is investing €3 billion to develop a serious, sovereign AI alternative to American and Asian giants.
Every day, thanks to our rich catalog of products and services (bare metal, containerization, serverless, AI, etc.), Scaleway proudly serves 38,000 private and public sector clients, from Photoroom to Mistral AI, Golem AI, and ADEME.
Our offices are located in Paris, Lille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, and Lyon.
WHY WE NEED YOU?
Scaleway Labs, the R&D department of Scaleway, is seeking bold and versatile minds to join our mission: explore, understand, and develop the technologies of tomorrow.
To tackle ambitious and complex challenges, we need individuals who are not only curious and adaptable but also comfortable switching topics, teams, and scopes—all while staying motivated and collaborative. Our goals are beyond what any single person or team can achieve alone.
This role is open to every human being, regardless of political views, religion, gender, origin, or appearance. We aim to write this job description in the most inclusive and neutral language possible.
YOUR FUTURE TEAM: SCALEWAY LABS
We work in a collaborative and international environment where the diversity of Scalers, combined with a spirit of sharing, helps bring new projects to life every day, advancing our ambitions together.
You will be part of a team of 7 to 10 people with versatile backgrounds, capable of solving both software and hardware challenges. The team operates in a horizontal structure and is organized into temporary squads ("crews") dedicated to specific exploration topics.
You’ll regularly interact with other teams (cloud, hardware, product, communication) and external partners (startups, vendors, etc.) to turn ideas into reality.
️ YOUR DAILY ROUTINE INCLUDES:
Technical Exploration & Development
Reverse-engineer, prototype, and validate emerging tech across the hardware/software stack.
Contribute to both foundational systems (Linux, kernels, hardware abstraction) and experimental applications (virtualization, distributed storage, cryptography).
Build tools and demos that showcase cutting-edge concepts to the rest of the company.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Regularly collaborate with internal teams including hardware, cloud products, networking, and security.
Participate in research guilds, open knowledge sessions, and shared R&D efforts.
Identify and relay promising technologies to product teams with clarity and vision.
Knowledge Sharing & Documentation
Write clear and accessible documentation for internal and public use (RFCs, blog posts, demos).
Create reproducible experiments and public artifacts (open source tools, PoCs, whitepapers).
Present findings internally and externally (talks, workshops, conferences).
Tech Stack Variety & Flexibility
Choose the right tool for the right challenge—expect to work with everything from Rust to Golang, C/C++, Python, and shell scripts.
Dive into hardware, network protocols, system-level optimization, and large-scale distributed architecture.
Adopt and adapt technologies quickly, with a pragmatic and creative mindset.
ABOUT YOU:
HARDSKILLS :
Solid programming skills and hands-on experience writing code, scripting, and prototyping
Strong knowledge of Unix-based systems (Linux, Android), with the ability to navigate other environments (macOS, Windows)
Familiarity with computer networking concepts (IPv6, DNS, routing, VXLANs, RFCs)
Understanding of modern software engineering practices: design patterns, CI/CD, testing, documentation
Experience with tools and languages like Go, Python, Rust, Shell, and gRPC is a plus
Exposure to virtualization and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Qemu, Libvirt)
