About this position

Within Scalable Architecture, we model the physical systems behind our technologies to understand their limitations and guide future designs.

As part of this effort you will join our Device Physics team, developing theoretical and numerical models of Quandela's quantum-dot-based photon sources in close collaboration with experimental teams. Your work will cover both quantum modelling and the development of scientific simulation tools, from investigating physical phenomena to improving existing models and making them usable by other researchers.

This role combines theoretical quantum physics, hands-on numerical research and scientific computing, with opportunities to contribute to ongoing projects, support experimental investigations and explore new modelling approaches.

What you’ll do

Theoretical modelling & scientific simulations

  • Develop and extend theoretical models of quantum-dot-based single photon sources.
  • Investigate quantum dynamics, decoherence and environmental interactions
  • Model open quantum systems and relevant physical noise mechanisms
  • Translate theoretical models into numerical algorithms and simulation workflows
  • Validate predictions against analytical results and experimental data
  • Support ongoing research projects and photon-source investigations

Scientific computing & simulation tools

  • Develop and extend scientific simulation code in Python and C++
  • Implement quantum-dynamics models using suitable numerical methods
  • Integrate new physical effects into existing simulation frameworks
  • Maintain, test and improve research code and numerical workflows
  • Make simulation tools reliable, documented and reusable by researchers

How you’ll grow

During your first months: Get familiar with Quandela's quantum-dot systems, existing models and simulation tools while contributing to ongoing projects.

Within 6-12 months: Take ownership of modelling activities, extend existing frameworks and improve their usability across the team.

Longer term: Explore new theoretical approaches and help guide future research directions in quantum-dot modeling.

Requirements

We are looking for a scientist combining strong theoretical quantum physics and hands-on numerical modelling skills. You should be comfortable translating physical questions into simulations and developing scientific code that other researchers can use.

Must-have

  • PhD in Quantum Physics, Theoretical Physics or a related field.
  • Strong foundations in quantum mechanics and theoretical modelling
  • Hands-on experience with numerical simulations of quantum systems
  • Scientific programming in Python / C++
  • Ability to assess modelling assumptions and validate results
  • Experience developing and maintaining scientific research code
  • Ability to collaborate with theoretical and experimental teams
  • Professional English

Important, but you can grow here

  • Quantum-dot physics and semiconductor photon sources
  • Quantum dynamics and open quantum systems
  • Quantum simulation packages such as QuTiP
  • Experience extending existing simulation frameworks
  • Modelling of physical noise and decoherence mechanisms

Bonus

  • Phonon-induced noise or other semiconductor noise mechanisms
  • Numerical methods for quantum-optical simulations
  • Connecting theoretical models with experimental measurements
  • Improving research code performance and usability
  • Use of AI tools in scientific research and modelling

We welcome candidates from different theoretical and computational physics backgrounds. Direct quantum-dot or photonic quantum-computing experience is not required
