About the Role

The ED-109 Software Developer Specialist supports documentation and software management for Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems in line with aviation and safety-critical standards.

The role ensures ATC software projects have compliant, auditable lifecycle documentation and traceability to support development, verification, validation, customer review and regulatory assessment.

Key deliverables include the Quality Management Plan (QMP), Software Management Plan and Traceability Matrix, ensuring alignment between requirements, software components, verification artifacts and regulatory expectations.

The specialist works with software, systems, QA, safety, and V&V teams to keep software lifecycles documented, controlled and auditable. The ideal candidate uses industry experience and AI tools to strengthen quality, safety and compliance across the software lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

• Support ATC software compliance strategy and ensure deliverables align with ED-109 Assurance Level expectations.

• Work with systems, QA, safety and regulatory teams to apply ED-109 requirements across the software lifecycle.

• Develop, maintain and update the Quality Management Plan and the Software Management Plan for ATC software systems.

• Define and maintain the requirements traceability process across the software lifecycle.

• Produce tools to maintain traceability matrices for ATC software projects.

• Use AI tools to improve code analysis, requirements traceability, verification and validation efficiency.

• Contribute to gap analyses and associated process improvements to raise compliance maturity.

• Promote best practices for ED-109 safety-critical software development.

• Support audits, assessments and milestone reviews by providing documented process evidence.

Required Experience

• 5+ years experience as a Senior System Engineer, Senior Software Engineer, or equivalent technical role in complex software or platform environments.

• Strong experience in defining functional and interface specifications, as well as producing high-level architecture and low-level design.

• Strong expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, enterprise application development, and modern programming paradigms and frameworks.

• Experience with ED-109/DO-278A or similar standards, preferably at AL5/AL4 or equivalent.

• Experience producing formal engineering, lifecycle, quality or compliance documentation.

• Experience with requirements management and traceability practices across the software lifecycle.

• Proficiency with AI tools for requirements management, analysis and documentation.

• Strong knowledge of software assurance, risk management and safety-critical certification processes.

• Excellent analytical, communication and documentation skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with C/C++ or C# development.
