_The Paris Brain Institute ICM is a private foundation recognized as being of public utility, whose purpose is fundamental and clinical research on the nervous system, located in the heart of the Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris. Are you looking for excellent research opportunities for your PhD studies at the forefront of Alzheimer’s disease fluid biomarkers? The Paris Brain InstituteICM is recruiting a PhD student holding a Master’s degree in neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular/cellular biology to be part of the Sorbonne University PhD Program. The student will be under the supervision of Prof. Kaj Blennow, visiting Professor at the Paris Brain Institute, and Drs. Marie-Claude Potier and Stéphane Haïk, leaders of the team Alzheimer’s disease and prion diseases at ICM.
The PhD student will work in close collaboration with the University of Tübingenin Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Mathias Jucker. Mobility of at least six months in Prof. Jucker’s lab in Tübingen will take place during the PhD program.
The project will focus on studying tau protein and derived biomarkers using a translational approach. While it has been shown that increased phospho-Tau levels in bodily fluids such as CSF or plasma are linked to the deposition of β-amyloid in the brain, their relation to frank tau pathology (in the absence of β-amyloidosis) is unclear. Besides, the perspective of biomarkers for the various stages of the tau pathology of AD would be necessary for clinical and tau-targeted clinical trials.
**MAIN MISSIONS**:
The project will involve translational research and will couple the investigation of plasma and CSF tau biomarkers in mice models of amyloid and tau pathology using ultra-high-sensitive immunoassays (SIMOA, MSD, Roche Elecsys), mass spectrometry, and RT-QuIC, compared to the different stages of amyloid-β and tau pathology using immunohistochemistry. The identification of biomarkers will then be validated using human post-mortem brain samples from the local NeuroCEB brain bank, and finally as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in clinical AD cohorts from the Pitié-Salpêtrière Memory Clinic.
