OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The Diversity of Cultural Expressions Entity promotes the diversity of cultural expressions and the creative economy as vectors for sustainable development. Its mission is to ensure the effective implementation and monitoring of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and the 1980 Recommendation concerning the Status of the Artist. The Entity fosters international cooperation by providing assistance to governments around the world to design, monitor, and evaluate policies. It also provides support to the sound decision-making of the Convention’s governing bodies through knowledge sharing and data collection, analysis, and distribution.

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture, the general supervision of the Chief of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions Entity, and the direct supervision of the Head of the Programmes and Stakeholders Outreach Unit, the Associate Project Officer will contribute to the implementation, monitoring and reporting of the EU/UNESCO project entitled “Advancing evidence-based policies and actions, and supporting policy making to enhance the contribution of creative sectors and industries to sustainable development” whose implementation period is from 2023 to 2026.
Long Description

**In particular, the incumbent will**:
Contribute to the selection of the partner countries of the EU/UNESCO technical assistance project in consultation with UNESCO Field offices.

Contribute to the daily running of the EU/UNESCO technical assistance project, in particular the components focusing on the UNESCO 2005 Convention by managing the funds decentralization memos to concerned UNESCO Field Offices and providing backstopping support to relevant project partners.

In close cooperation with Field Offices and national partners, establish contracts with members of the Expert Facility of the 2005 Convention and national experts and organize technical assistance missions to be undertaken by the experts.

Elaborate various working tools (e.g., country fact sheets of the project, PowerPoints, promotional materials, speeches) and make them available to project stakeholders, focusing on the 2005 Convention.

Provide support to collect data and information (including photos, audio-visual materials, testimonials) from the beneficiaries and prepare progress reports to the donor pertaining to the components on the UNESCO 2005 Convention.

Prepare or contribute to briefings, reports and presentations on the project, including, but not limited to, the EU/UNESCO Steering Committee.

Support the implementation of a communication and stakeholders outreach strategies, including the management of the web pages dedicated to the EU/UNESCO project (drafting web stories, etc.).

Support the organization of monitoring and communication meetings on the project in the margin of the statutory meetings of the governing bodies of the Convention or other international meetings on the Convention.

Assistant with the implementation of capacity-building activities of the Section by making synergies between the EU-funded activities and other activities of UNESCO, whenever possible and pertinent.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Advanced University degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in the field of culture, cultural policies and/or cultural and creative industries, or a related area, such as international relations, international development.

Work Experience

A minimum of one (1) year of relevant professional experience in the field of culture, international development/cooperation or related areas.

Languages
