**The team**:
You will be part of a **multidisciplinary team**, in charge of the development and deployment of advanced methods (numerical simulations, modeling, artificial intelligence, optimisation ?) covering all the physical aspects related to the propulsion system and acoustic. The areas of activity of the team are rich and diverse and mainly cover R&T and program topics in order to support business activities.
**Your mission**:
In order to face up to the challenges of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, more efficient "open-fan" type engines consisting of an unducted propeller and stator are being considered.
These new generation engines involve major new challenges from an acoustic point of view to comply with certification standards and to ensure passenger comfort in cruise. As a complement to wind tunnel and flight tests, aeroacoustic simulations are an essential tool to reach this target.
It is therefore desirable to have efficient, high-fidelity numerical simulation capabilities that can take into account significant geometric complexity.
In the frame of the present PhD thesis, **you will develop and improve** numerical tools based on the Lattice-Boltzmann method (LBM)** to predict the noise of open-fans in cruise regime. More specifically, you will implement and validate shock capturing techniques, work on adaptive mesh refinements on shocks, and adapt a new conservative compressible LBM model to non-conforming mesh interfaces and mesh junctions between fixed and rotating domains. You will also be involved in the improvement of the wall modeling to deal with rotating bodies.
You will **develop yourself in an international context** **within the framework of aircraft development and research activities in connection with major Airbus partners such as research centers.
Your academic supervision will be ensured with the CERFACS, a reference research center on LBM in Toulouse.

**Activities/Responsibilities**:
**Your main tasks and responsibilities may include**:
Academic axis : This axis focuses on the ability of the LBM approach to achieve the expected level of accuracy for each of the criteria required for achieving a reliable aeroacoustic calculation.
Contribute to the development and validation of shock capturing techniques.
Investigate the benefit of semi-automatic mesh adaptation on shocks.
Contribute to the development and validation of non-conforming mesh interfaces, as well as mesh interfaces between fixed and rotating domains, compatible with a new LBM energy conservative model.
Contribute to the improvement of the wall modeling to deal with rotating bodies.
Contribute to the Knowledge capitalization linked with your technical perimeter through publications of the PhD results in international journals or conferences.
Conduct numerical studies for the validation on an isolated open fan benchmark case, where aerodynamic and acoustic references are available.
Demonstrate the potential of the numerical approach in a more realistic aerodynamic environment
Compare integral methods of acoustic propagation with direct acoustic computations to validate the integral methods in an installed context, where the propagation medium is not homogeneous.
Understand and analyze the physical phenomena of interaction noise sources related to the engine installation.
Your role will include some business travels.

**Skills**:
Young Engineer, Masters degree in aero-acoustics or fluid mechanics
Good knowledge and practice of unsteady aeroacoustic CFD simulation methods
Good knowledge and practice of numerical methods / schemes
Good knowledge of programming languages, such as Python, C++
A significant plus would be to have knowledge / experience in:
pre
- and post-processing tools for unsteady CFD simulation for acoustics
Acoustics theory and methods
Good knowledge of Aeronautics (stakes, challenges, etc.)
Soft skills required:
- Very good ability in human relationship
