The collaboration associates the L2n-URCA as a leading laboratory with FARE-INRAE The project will leverage Nano’Mat’s characterization tools and technological resources. The project will also draw on the resources of the NANO-PHOT Graduate School.
The project involves mainly the organic electronic group of the L2n which have expertise in semiconductor physics and advances electronics.
- Biomolecules & Biomaterials: How to design and produce biomolecules & biomaterials?
- Agro-systems and Environment: How to mobilize and manage biomass to ensure the closure of biogeochemical cycles?
They are organized into 3 Themes:
- Theme 1 - Biomass Properties: What properties do plant biomass and bio-based products have?
- Theme 2 - Process/Procedure Efficiency: How efficient are the processes and procedures for transforming plant biomass?
- Theme 3 - Transformation Modeling: What models and digital tools are used to understand and predict transformations of plant biomass and their associated impacts?
The bio-based materials activity aims to the development of bioinspired polymer materials (predominantly agro-sourced) and composites (in particular based on lignocellulosic fibers) at macro and nano scales, in order to develop new materials fully «green» and lightened with high added-value properties. These materials are processed respectively by surface deposition techniques (Langmuir-Blodgett, spin-coating, casting,...) or twin-screw extrusion (composite materials) and can be characterized by several spectroscopy methods (UV/Vis, Attenuated total reflectance in Infra-red, fluorescence), spectroscopic ellipsometry at polymer scale or thermomechanical methods at macroscale.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the forefront of sustainable electronics by focusing on the development of an environmentally friendly insulator, a key component of OTFTs. Your work will help address one of the primary challenges in creating fully green organic transistors—replacing traditional materials with green alternatives while maintaining high performance.
As an intern, you will join an interdisciplinary team combining expertise from the organic electronics group at L2n-URCA and the biomolecules and biomaterials group at FARE-INRAE-URCA. Together, we aim to develop and optimize a green insulator, fabricated from biosourced materials, and implement it within organic transistors. This research represents an important step toward minimizing the environmental impact of electronic devices.
**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**
- Fabrication of the green insulator film:
You will work on optimizing the deposition parameters for the green insulator material, ensuring that key factors such as surface roughness, film thickness, and homogeneity meet the necessary standards for OTFT gate dielectric performance.
- Integration into organic transistors:
After successfully fabricating the green insulator, you will integrate it into a complete OTFT device by depositing an organic semiconductor (OSC) layer on top of the insulator and fabricating gold source and drain electrodes using shadow masks.
- Device characterization and performance evaluation:
You will measure the electrical characteristics (IV measurements) of the fabricated OTFTs to assess the performance of the green insulator within the device.
Based on the results, you will identify ways to further optimize both material properties and device fabrication processes.
This hands-on role will give you valuable experience in both material fabrication and electronic device testing, providing a deep understanding of sustainable organic electronics. You will also have the opportunity to work with advanced equipment and gain expertise in thin-film deposition and characterization techniques.
**Career Development**
This internship offers the possibility of continuing with a PhD project related to OTFTs, funded by the ANR, making it a perfect stepping stone for students interested in pursuing a research career.

**Profile and Required Skills**
- A degree that qualifies for enrolment in a Master 2 in Research or an equivalent program in physics, materials science, nanoscience, or a closely related field.
- A hands-on attitude and enthusiasm for experimental work, particularly in material fabrication and device testing.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
