NYU Paris is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach the following undergraduate course in Music: Music History III, Nineteenth Century.

**Course Description**

An exploration of 19th Century musical styles, chiefly romanticism, through the works of composers from 1790 - 1880. The course is meant to allow students to recognize, describe, and discuss features of the romantic style; to demonstrate an understanding of the origins of romanticism and how it differs from the classical period as manifest in musical practice; to recognize, identify, and discuss works typical of the romantic period including the symphony, symphonic poem, concerto, opera, lied (song), and solo/chamber works including the sonata and string quartet. (Prerequisite: Music Theory II)

Language of instruction: English

Teaching commences in September 2023; courses meet for 2.5 hours a week for a 14.5 week term.

**Qualifications**:
The appointed person will have full responsibility for teaching and coordinating the course. The course is taught in a seminar, discussion-based style and offered to undergraduate students, mostly in their second or third year of study. All students are NYU students enrolled in NYU degrees in New York, Abu Dhabi or Shanghai who come to study at NYU Paris for one semester. Classes take place at our Academic Centre in Paris**.**
