The Corporate Responsibility (CR) department’s mission is to advance a stronger, more durable and safe financial system and an inclusive economy and society for clients, customers and communities around the world. CR includes Global Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs, Global Philanthropy, Sustainable Finance, and the JPMorgan Chase Institute.
Global Government Relations (GGR) is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive policy, regulatory and advocacy strategy on behalf of JPMorgan Chase. Regulatory Affairs is part of GGR and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive regulatory policy strategy on behalf of the firm. This includes monitoring and analyzing policy developments from regulatory agencies across the globe, partnering with business leaders to develop views on emerging policy, responding to requests from regulators and standard setters including commenting on proposed rulemakings, and engaging with policymakers on how emerging regulatory policies affect the firm’s clients and economic growth overall.
Job summary
As a Vice President in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Regulatory Affairs team, you will be responsible for policy analysis and advocacy for the EMEA region, focusing on capital markets regulatory policy issues. You will contribute to a range of advocacy efforts on priority EU and UK regulatory policy dossiers that impact the firm, such as markets regulation and emerging topics like securities tokenization. You will work closely with the EMEA Regulatory Affairs team and partner extensively with Regulatory Affairs colleagues in the U.S. and Asia-Pacific (APAC) to strategically develop, pursue and execute regulatory policy analysis and advocacy objectives for the Firm.
This role will require you to travel to London and EU countries on a regular basis (approximately 25% of the time).
Job responsibilities
The main areas of responsibility for the role include:
- Identify and monitor regulatory policy developments. Monitor key UK and EU (e.g. ESMA, EC, FCA, HMT) and international releases (e.g. IOSCO) on a number of markets and other related policy issues.
- Provide insights, updates, and potential business impact analysis of these developments on the Firm.
- Advise our Lines of Business (LOBs) and other functions on the implications of key policies and regulations, including at firmwide and legal-entity levels, to drive consistent interpretation and execution of requirements.
- Develop positions and advocacy strategies on proposed regulatory policies and lead engagement with trade associations, policymakers, regulators and other stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
- Represent the Firm’s views in discussions with regulators, legislators and other appropriate external stakeholders.
- Produce quantitative and qualitative analysis in support of regulatory policy positions.
- Deliver verbal and written briefings and analyses on complex topics to a wide range of internal stakeholders, including senior management.
- Prepare executive level presentations for senior leaders to use with both internal and external stakeholders on a range of regulatory policy issues in the region.
- Build relationships and work with a wide range of internal stakeholders (LOBs, compliance, legal, government affairs, finance, and global partners in the Regulatory Affairs function) in determining the firm's views on proposals and the appropriate mechanism for advocacy/response.
- Develop relationships and engage with external stakeholders, including identifying and building relationships with regulators, peer firms, and trade and industry bodies.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- 5+ years in policy, financial/capital markets, financial regulation, consulting, strategy, research or a related role.
- Fluent English and French language skills are mandatory, both verbal and written.
- Working knowledge of financial services regulation and public policy context. Familiarity with recent UK and EU markets regulation such as MiFID II/MiFIR, EMIR, short selling etc.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and ability to effectively engage senior stakeholders in English and French.
- Ease working across a range of complex issues; ability to learn new topics quickly and move between subjects.
- Strong time management skills with ability to manage multiple projects and time sensitive deliverables.
- Advanced technical skills in Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong initiative, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking.
- Highest level of integrity and professionalism.
