About RoleThe Upstream Technical Safety Engineer reports to the HSE Upstream HSE Manager and is accountable for overseeing and coordinating all Upstream technical safety engineering activities for the client LNG project. This includes ensuring alignment with client safety requirements, facilitating risk assessment studies, and supporting design and operational safety processes throughout the project.The Upstream Technical Safety Engineer shall assume Company responsibility for development and execution of the required Technical Safety activities to support the Upstream scope and work in conjunction with Contractor counterparts and other members of the Company Project Team. The job holder is expected to ensure that a robust fit for purpose Technical Safety scope is delivered in line with agreed execution plans, technical requirements and Project HSE requirements.N normally resident in the offices of the EPCI Contractor in Paris (France), the Upstream Technical Safety Engineer is expected to support local elements of the Upstream Team leaders across all locations, with periodic missions to other locations as project need dictates.ActivitiesRepresent the Technical Safety discipline in the project organization structure.Ensure safety engineering is embedded across all upstream packages (CPI such as OSSEM, SPS and EPCI, etc.).Provide technical safety input and leadership during engineering, construction, commissioning, and start-up phases.Lead and coordinate the implementation and update of hazard studies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, QRA).Review, update, and maintain the Critical Event Register (CER), TRA Assumptions Register, and Major Risk Register (MRR).Ensure completion and quality of the Detailed Risk Analysis (DRA) and ALARP demonstration.Track and follow up on closure of PHA/HAZOP actions in NewProdom.Ensure procedural actions (especially for OSSEM and Subsea) are developed and closed prior to commissioning.Support preparation and execution of Risk Reduction Workshops (RRW).Finalize Safety and Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs) identification and documentation.Develop and maintain performance standards for SECEs in alignment with client guidelines and good engineering practices.Collaborate with engineering, commissioning, operations, and contractor teams to ensure risk mitigation is integrated into design.Address gaps between onshore and upstream scopes—especially where technical safety overlaps with access control, telecom, and interface design.Support interface reviews to prevent duplication or omissions in safety responsibilities.Contribute to pre-commissioning and commissioning activities to ensure all safety systems and procedures are in place.Ensure incorporation of technical safety aspects into ICSS integration, OTPs, and SIMOPS documentation.Completed and approved: CER, TRA Assumptions Register, DRA, RRW, ALARP Demonstration, and MRR.Closure of all technical safety-related PHA/HAZOP actions.SECE Performance Standards documentation.Regular safety status reports and lessons learned inputs.Technical input to Operations and Commissioning documentation.AccountabilitiesManagement of Upstream Technical Safety Scope delivery and team during the project execution phase.Safe and on time delivery of the Upstream Technical Safety Scope whilst ensuring a high level of quality consistent with a project design life of 20 years.Ensure compliance with Company HSE requirements within all work activities.Qualifications and Experience RequiredBachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, preferably in Safety, Chemical, or Process Engineering.Minimum 8 years’ experience in upstream oil and gas project safety engineering.Strong understanding of client safety standards and international safety regulations.Proven ability to lead safety assessments and interface with multidisciplinary teams.Fluency in the English language and capable to represent the project in front of all stakeholders in a professional and organized manner.Valid BOSIET and OGUK Offshore Medical certifications.With over 90 years\' combined experience, NES Fircroft (NES) is proud to be the world\'s leading engineering staffing provider spanning the Oil & Gas, Power & Renewables, Chemicals, Construction & Infrastructure, Life Sciences, Mining andManufacturingsectors worldwide.
