Job Title: Head of Data Architecture

Location: Remote (EU-based)

Summary:

The Head of Data Architecture will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and optimisation of the company's data architecture and strategy. This includes overseeing the data infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and integration with other systems, and encouraging a data-driven culture within the company. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, data science, and product management, to ensure that the data architecture supports both current and future business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Architecture Strategy: Develop and drive the company's data architecture strategy, aligning it with the company's business goals and future growth plans.
  • Data Systems Design: Lead the design and implementation of data pipelines, data storage solutions, and data processing systems to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance in a fast-growing FinTech environment.
  • Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of data engineers, architects, and other technical professionals. Build a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the data team.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams to define and execute data requirements, ensuring seamless integration of data across the organization.
  • Data Governance & Security: Ensure that data governance, security, and compliance standards are met, including GDPR and PCI-DSS compliance, ensuring privacy and protection of sensitive financial data.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Lead the development and optimization of data solutions hosted on cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) while maintaining flexibility and scalability.
  • Data Modelling & Warehousing: Oversee the design and implementation of data models, data lakes, and data warehouses, ensuring that they support analytics, business intelligence, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Optimisation & Performance: Continuously monitor and optimize data architectures for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime.
  • Data Quality & Integration: Establish processes and standards for data quality, data cleansing, and data integration across multiple data sources and systems.
  • Stakeholder Management: Communicate and engage with stakeholders across the business to ensure that data solutions align with and support business needs, driving a data-first approach.
  • Innovation & Research: Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure that the company's data architecture remains at the forefront of the FinTech industry.

Requirements:

  • Experience: At least 8-10 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a related field, with significant experience in leading and managing data teams, preferably in the FinTech or financial services sector.
  • Technical Skills:Extensive experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Strong background in data warehousing, data lakes, and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Expertise in data modeling, schema design, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with big data technologies and tools (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, NoSQL databases).
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting languages like Python, Java, SQL, or similar.
  • Experience with data governance and compliance standards such as GDPR, PCI-DSS, and SOX.
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and data visualization.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code for managing cloud environments.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to translate complex data needs into actionable strategies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment and adapt to changing business requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Nice to Have:

  • Previous experience in FinTech, banking, or payments industry, with a deep understanding of financial regulations and compliance.
  • Experience with machine learning or advanced analytics platforms.
  • Certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
