Software Engineer

We are founder-led, profitable, growing, and operate with a global, mostly remote workforce.We are hiring talented Software Engineers with strong Python, Packaging and Linux skills who want to have a positive impact on the day-to-day workflow of thousands of snap, rock and charm publishers. The role focuses on packaging formats, build systems and automation to simplify software delivery to a broad audience.We design and maintain specialist Python tools to support the developer build and publication process. The team builds tooling for snaps, charms and related projects.Key projects include:Snapcraft — enables developers to deliver app updates to millions of Linux systems and to publish thousands of applications.Charmcraft — enables collaboration for charmed operator developers and publication on Charmhub.Rockcraft — provides container developers with means to build production-grade Ubuntu-based container images (Rocks) for use in registries like Docker Hub.We value curiosity about packaging formats, build systems, automation, and cross-distro ecosystems.What we are looking forYou have expertise in Python.You have a strong understanding of the makeup of a modern GNU/Linux distribution.You have a good understanding of build systems and toolchains, including cross-compilation.Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes and LXD.Ability to extend the snap build ecosystem using languages, toolchains, frameworks, integrations, and CI systems.Ability to work with external open source and commercial projects to serve community needs.What we offer youYour base pay depends on location, experience, knowledge and skills.
