About Faber
Faber is building the next generation of mechanical engineering tools. Today, designing and manufacturing a mechanical part takes months of work in software that was designed in the 1980s for a fully manual interaction. We think the next generation of these tools will be agentic: an engineer and an AI agent working on the same geometry, from the first sketch to the manufactured part.
We are a very young company. Four founders, three engineers from École Polytechnique and one founder from industry, based in Paris. We’ve secured funding to build the team and the product, and we work with industrial design partners in automotive, aerospace and precision manufacturing.
The role
The team is the four of us and one intern, and the codebase is what we have built over the last year: an agent harness, our first models, a geometry stack that we are rethinking from the ground up. We are looking for someone with real experience building 3D engineering software, who is also willing to question all of it and rebuild what needs to be rebuilt.
The job sits at the intersection of four things: mechanical engineering, computational geometry, 3D software, and AI. We are looking for deep expertise in at least two or three of them and genuine curiosity for the rest.
Above all, this is a role for someone with ideas. The question we are trying to answer is: what does the next generation of engineering software look like? We do not know yet. We need someone with an open mind, who wants to test a lot of things, and who has the technical depth to tell which ones work.
What you will work on
- The geometry layer of our tools: how the agent perceives a part, a drawing or a B-rep, how it acts on the geometry kernel, and how we check that the result is right.
- Human-agent interaction: how an engineer steers, corrects and validates the agent’s work, in the interface.
- Classic CAD/CAM features in our own application: sketching, modelling, toolpaths.
- Real industrial problems, with our design partners: parts, drawings, machining processes. This is a market where the users are engineers and machinists, and where you see what your work does in a workshop.
Who we are looking for
- 5+ years building 3D or CAD software: geometry kernels, B-rep, meshes, solvers, or a close field. You have worked on the hard problems of geometry, not only on top of a library.
- Fast and comfortable writing code. We use coding agents heavily.
- Enough mechanical engineering to read a drawing and judge whether a part makes sense.
- Practical experience with machine learning, or a strong drive to get it. You do not need to be a researcher.
- You want to help build a company, and a truly multidisciplinary team.
- You iterate and test fast.
What we offer
- Competitive salary and founding-level equity.
- A place in Paris, in a young team that wants to mix engineers, ML researchers, CAD specialists and people from the workshop.
- A very open problem, real users, and the resources to attack it properly.
- Direct work with the founders, and a real say in what we build.
How we hire
- A 30-minute call with one of the founders.
- A technical conversation (1h) around a real geometry problem from our work.
- A half-day with the team in Paris.
- References, then an offer.
