Job Summary

Project Overview

Imerys is launching a lithium mining project, the EMILI Project, at its Beauvoir site in Echassières, France. The project aims to produce 34,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide per year for at least 25 years, with production starting in 2028.

The project schedule includes several stages, including the completion of the preliminary mine design, validation and testing of the overall process at the lab scale, characterization of the deposit, and construction of the industrial/demo pilot plant. The project will also involve the commissioning of the commercial plant by 2028.

The run of mine material will be concentrated to separate the lithium-bearing minerals from other by-products or waste material. The concentrate will be transported to the refining site, where it will be calcined with a mix of sulphate salts to convert the insoluble lithium species to lithium soluble ones. After calcination, the calcined material will be leached, and the pregnant leach solution will be purified through several steps in the flowsheet. Lithium carbonate will be precipitated using sodium carbonate and later converted to lithium hydroxide using quicklime. The lithium hydroxide will be finally crystallized to obtain the final product in powder form.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide Owner's guidance and supervision to engineering and design companies engaged to develop the various stages of the EMILI project for the Automation and Electrical engineering.
  • Ensure that designs are in accordance with project requirements and company objectives and are produced in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Work in a safe manner, complying with and actively contributing to the Health, Safety and Environmental EHS policies, manuals and procedures.
  • Consider the health, safety and welfare of fellow workers, visitors, clients, community and the environment at all times.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Check and Approve technical specifications, contract specifications, calculations, reports, design criteria and other documents done by Engineering contractors required by the project.
  • Oversight Engineering contractors and specialized company while producing designs in accordance with project, discipline, statutory regulations, good-practice and company procedural requirements.
  • Work closely with process and operation teams to define the project control systems.
  • Ensure design is completed as per assigned scope.
  • Ensure designs produced are optimal in terms of maintainability, serviceability, equipment operating cost and safe operation.
  • Ensure design engineering standards are maintained and adhered to.
  • Provide technical guidance to Project staff on various aspects of design.
  • Approve technical adjudications/recommendations for equipment and installation contract done by Engineering contractors.
  • Review and comment on design documents and drawings from own discipline and from other disciplines.
  • Compare procurement costs against budget and provide feedback to Project Control.
  • Estimate, control and review design scope changes.
  • Provide feedback on the quality, use and value of systems used in design.
  • Attend shop inspection and factory acceptance tests and provide input into vendor's test documentation as required.
  • Assist with plant installation and commissioning.
  • Liaise with Site construction staff on technical queries on resolution of engineering design issues.
  • Provide timely reports regarding all discussions held and progress made. Ensure all correspondence is recorded.
  • Input into progress reports, including listing achievements and highlighting issues as required.
  • Ensure compliance and take initiative for safety and environmental issues.

EHS Responsibilities

  • Provide positive and demonstrated leadership on EHS issues within your area of operation.
  • Read, understand and implement the EHS policies and procedures.
  • Promote an enthusiastic EHS culture that delivers positive commitment to and engages all employees in continuous improvement in EHS performance.

Job Specifications

Education and Experience requirements:

  • BSc, BEng or B.Tech in Engineering or National Diploma with a minimum of 10 years' experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years automation design experience in complex Industrial installation and in large Capital Projects.
  • Highly developed knowledge of industrial automation and electrical systems and Codes and Norms in the European community and preferable in France.
  • Good knowledge of Siemens automation products and Industry 4.0 would be a plus.
  • Experience in project planning, execution, management, and communication with all stakeholders in large successful capital projects.
  • Extensive experience in working with EPCM automation and electrical engineers.
  • Must be knowledgeable about industry best practices.
  • Recent experience managing automation and electrical engineering activities in large capital projects.
  • Well-developed computer skills and knowledge of word, databases, spreadsheets and discipline related application software.
  • Site experience – construction and commissioning.
