Job Summary
The Director of Accounting serves as the chief accountant for the system, responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the accounting system. This includes proper classification of general ledger transactions for individual colleges and the system office, as well as development of internal and external financial reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate external audits, drafting schedules and statements, and ensuring the accuracy of financial reports.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with KRS regulations, GASB, and NACUBO standards.
- Oversee system-wide accounting transactions, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established guidelines and standards.
- Prepare bookkeeping for OPEB trust and financial statements, as well as various monthly and quarterly journals.
- Advise and consult with Facilities Management on accounting issues related to asset management and general ledger interfaces.
- Assist colleges and system office staff with accounting issues and concerns, ensuring proper classification of assets and accurate recording of transactions.
- Collaborate with system office finance and institutional advancement staff on financial and accounting matters.
- Work with other system office departments and colleges to ensure testing, implementation, and problem resolution for financial system upgrades and interfaces.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting and ten years of relevant experience or equivalent.
- Certified Public Account (CPA) License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Accounting and fifteen years of relevant experience or equivalent.
