Research Scientist in Advanced 3D Characterization

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team at the ESRF, a world-leading research institute in the field of materials science. As a PhD student, you will play a crucial role in the investigation of the connection between deformation and annealing microstructures in metals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct experiments using Dark Field X-ray Microscopy (DFXM) and 3DXRD to map deformed grains and track subgrain evolution during deformation.
  • Perform high-resolution 3D mapping of deformation structures in metals such as Fe-3%Si alloy and commercially pure nickel.
  • Analyze strain states at different deformation levels and identify the evolution of deformation structures.
  • Carry out annealing experiments to capture the onset of nucleation in terms of strain and stored energy.
  • Integrate experimental data with computational simulations to validate and compare findings.
Requirements:
  • A Master's degree in physics, materials science, or a related field.
  • Experience in experimental X-ray techniques and programming.
  • Demonstrated interest in materials science and deformation analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and facility users.
  • Proficiency in English.
