Sustainability Project Manager, Global Products

About the Role:

As we define what constitutes a more sustainable product at Sephora, and in response to the increasing consumer demand for products with reduced environmental footprints, we are establishing our brand's sustainability benchmarks on a global scale. The Sustainability Project Manager will play a pivotal role in leading initiatives within key regions and will also assist brands worldwide in enhancing product sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Management

  • Oversee the execution and continuous improvement of Sephora's Public Chemicals Policy, ensuring effective collaboration and communication with non-governmental organizations.
  • Facilitate the advancement of standards for global Clean & Planet initiatives.
  • Contribute to the formulation of long-term strategies and policies for product sustainability.

Brand Support and Education

  • Assist brands in adopting sustainable practices and enhancing transparency.
  • Analyze and summarize technical data to address brand inquiries regarding safer ingredient policies and develop sustainability roadmaps.
  • Create guidelines and contribute to the development of training and educational resources focused on sustainability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Promote interdepartmental collaboration, working closely with merchandising teams and regional leads.
  • Provide guidance to merchant teams on Clean & Sustainability initiatives.
  • Establish and refine efficient systems to communicate sustainability standards and criteria to internal stakeholders.

Best Practices and Insights

  • Stay informed about best practices in sustainability, eco-design, and industry expectations across Sephora markets.
  • Possess knowledge or a keen interest in the latest innovations within the beauty sector that effectively reduce environmental impact.
  • Analyze regional sustainability successes and challenges faced by brands, considering regulations, material availability, and other factors.

Tools and Monitoring

  • Enhance the efficiency of operational systems, dashboards, and processes to monitor projects and product data, creating new tools as necessary.
  • Develop and implement tools to track sustainability metrics related to ingredients, packaging, and other relevant areas.
  • Create resources and tools to promote sustainability adoption and facilitate communication both internally and with the brand community.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sustainability and/or the beauty industry (preferably both).
  • Proven track record in supporting sustainability objectives and programs within a for-profit context.
  • Experience in the beauty or consumer products sector, particularly in areas such as chemical management, packaging, climate impact, and lifecycle assessment.
  • Familiarity with major regulations, industry standards, and environmental legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results and navigate ambiguity while engaging and motivating diverse cross-functional teams.
  • Preferred educational background in sustainable business or environmental studies.
