Position Overview:

Delivering an exceptional mobile user experience is vital to our mission, and we are in search of a skilled Lead Android Software Engineer to assist in the development of native Android applications. At Toptal, we leverage cutting-edge technologies to create world-class applications that are both enjoyable to use and to develop. We prioritize quality and integrity in our work. In this role, you will collaborate closely with top Designers, Back-end, and Mobile Developers to produce stunning Android applications that are refined, efficient, thoroughly tested, and delightful to interact with.

This position is fully remote. We do not provide visa sponsorship or assistance. All resumes and communications must be submitted in English.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will architect, code, and sustain efficient, reusable, and reliable native Android code for our mobile application. Collaborating with the team, you will engage in all stages of application development: from transforming professional designs into functional applications to proposing innovative ideas, ensuring our solutions remain at the forefront of technology. You will guarantee an extensible and future-ready architecture for the application.
  • Design, develop, document, analyze, create, test, or modify computer or cloud-based systems or programs.
Initial Expectations:
  • Integrate into our Mobile team and commence your orientation at Toptal.
  • Engage in company-wide training sessions.
  • Familiarize yourself with our product offerings and team structure.
  • Set up your local development environment and become acquainted with our technology stack.
  • Submit your first pull request.
First Month Goals:
  • Implement your initial features and enhancements to the Android application.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions regarding the application's future.
  • Gain insight into the team's business domain.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our technologies, processes, and product pipeline.
First Three Months Objectives:
  • Actively contribute to software planning, development, and maintenance.
  • Influence architectural decisions, enhancements to the codebase, and team processes while exercising discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ensure your features and enhancements are accessible to users.
First Six Months Aspirations:
  • Spearhead technical initiatives within our team.
  • Propel improvements to the codebase and processes.
  • Assist the team in maintaining speed, efficiency, and satisfaction.
  • Attain a deep understanding of the application's inner workings.
First Year Milestones:
  • Achieve a comprehensive understanding of the short and long-term objectives of the mobile applications.
  • Continue to drive technical and product excellence within the team.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in native Android development.
  • Strong grasp of architectural principles and design patterns, with the ability to apply them effectively to real-world challenges.
  • Capacity to continually enhance code and architecture quality in response to evolving requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of Jetpack Compose and/or Kotlin Multiplatform is advantageous.
  • Experience with custom-designed systems is a plus.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with Product stakeholders in the development and refinement of feature requirements.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to explore innovative and successful solutions to challenges.
  • A desire to support your colleagues, share knowledge, and learn from others.
  • A commitment to providing and receiving honest yet constructive feedback.
