Kpler is a leading provider of data intelligence for the commodity markets. We connect the dots across fragmented information landscapes, providing our clients with a unique, real-time understanding of supply and demand in the commodity markets.
Job SummaryWe are seeking an exceptional Head of Engineering to lead our engineering team and work closely with our co-founder and CTO. As the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for managing a team of 25 engineers across Development, DevOps, and Technical Support, helping it scale to 50+ team members in 2021. You will partner with the Head of Product and senior technical teams to design and prioritize the roadmap, overseeing topics such as budgeting, staffing, people development, tooling, and engineering processes.
Key Responsibilities- Enable and monitor departmental efficiency and productivity by preparing and managing the engineering department budget, identifying staffing and tooling needs, making outsourcing decisions, and reporting on overall organizational cost and activities.
- Build a world-class team with a brilliant engineering culture by owning and enhancing our engineering brand externally, improving the quality and efficiency of our hiring process, and enhancing coaching, learning, and knowledge sharing within the tech team.
- Evangelize quality of code and engineering best practices across the organization by understanding, analyzing, and making recommendations on the advancement of standards and processes, designing a framework to increase and monitor code quality, and implementing metrics to ensure documentation and knowledge are well communicated.
- Ensure that we are building the right things at the right pace by working cross-functionally with business leaders, the Head of Product, and senior technical leaders to create and prioritize the engineering roadmap, set organizational goals and priorities aligned with the overall business strategy, and building systems and metrics to monitor progress and make trade-offs as appropriate.
- Previous experience working for a high-growth, fast-paced start-up, where you have been directly involved in growing a team.
- Successful leadership of internationally distributed and multi-disciplinary teams of 30+ people.
- Track record of attracting, hiring, and retaining top engineering talent and supporting and developing people, both managers and senior individual contributors.
- Technical background working with Python, Kafka, Go, Scala, Open Source technologies, and Data pipelines.
- Ability to build strong, effective relationships with people from different disciplines.
- Scientific and data-centric approach to problems, with a focus on continuous enhancement and data-driven decisions.
