We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to join our Dispute Resolution Services team as Deputy Director of Arbitration and ADR Services for Africa.

About the Role

This role will be responsible for promoting and developing ICC's Dispute Resolution Services across the African continent. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dispute resolution, particularly international arbitration, and excellent business development skills. They will be able to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment, and be proficient in MS Office programs.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Promotion of ICC dispute resolution services, which may include:

    • Engaging with corporate counsel, law firms, chambers of commerce, and state entities to build durable relationships and promote ICC dispute resolution services.
    • Responding to local queries regarding ICC Arbitration and ADR Rules and procedures.
    • Working with ICC national committees in Africa to enhance the use and awareness of ICC's dispute resolution services.

  2. Business development activities and support:

    • Gaining understanding of the specific dispute resolution needs of users across Africa and feeding back insights to the ICC global team.
    • Presenting ICC to key players in the legal and business sectors, including government representatives, corporate counsel, and legal professionals.
    • Contributing to ICC special projects, in line with Global DRS Development and ICC's Roadmap, including but not limited to assistance establishing an ICC DRS representative office in Africa.

  3. Event management and participation:

    • Organising and participating in selected regional conferences, seminars, and ICC Young Arbitrators and ADR Forum (YAAF) events, including coordination of budgets and logistics.
    • Contributing to the preparation of ICC DRS marketing materials, presentations, and sponsorship brochures for events across Africa, working in line with the ICC brand and in close coordination with marketing and design teams at ICC Global Headquarters.

  4. Stakeholder relations:

    • Maintaining relationships with legal and business communities, as well as regional and international stakeholders.
    • Collaborating with speakers, sponsors, and national partners for regional and global programmes.

You Will Be A Good Fit If

  • You have a law degree with at least five years of post-qualification experience, ideally with knowledge of dispute resolution, particularly international arbitration.
  • You have strong business development acumen, with a proven track record in marketing or sales being an advantage.
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills in English; fluency in French or other major African languages is a significant advantage.
  • You are able to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are available to travel across the African continent on occasion for strategic events, meetings, and presentations.
  • You are proficient in MS Office programs; knowledge of CRM systems and social media management tools is a plus.
