Research Center
ArcelorMittal Maizieres Research is recognized as the largest research facility within the ArcelorMittal network. Our campus features four specialized laboratories focusing on distinct domains: Product, Process, Bars & Wires, and Pilote. The current opportunity is situated within the Digital Technologies cluster, a vital segment of the Process Lab. This cluster is dedicated to pioneering digital and cyber-physical solutions, utilizing sensors and data science for both process and product control and optimization. Our team comprises approximately 40 professionals, including apprentices, technicians, engineers, and researchers, all working collaboratively towards our goals.
Role Overview
As a Research Engineer, your contributions will be pivotal in advancing our initiatives related to process decarbonization and digitalization (Industry 4.0). You will engage in two primary research domains:
- Development of Physical Thermal Models
- Process Control Innovations
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement advanced physical thermal models aimed at monitoring and optimizing steel manufacturing furnaces.
- Develop and integrate real-time control systems.
- Lead research initiatives within the framework of various projects, providing technical support to operational plants.
- Contribute to the evolution of research activities by proposing new research directions and projects.
Candidate Profile
- Master's degree or PhD in Control Engineering, Automation, Physics, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in control engineering principles, including feedback loops, PID controllers, Model Predictive Control, and optimal control strategies.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab/Simulink, Fortran, or Python.
- Comprehensive understanding of real-time and embedded systems.
- Knowledge of thermal dynamics, heat transfer, and physical phenomena (combustion, pyrolysis, oxidation, and physical modeling).
- Experience with measurement techniques, including instrumentation and signal processing.
- Familiarity with Fluent or Comsol is advantageous.
- Fluency in English and French.
- Ability to conduct laboratory experiments and trials in industrial settings.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
