Research Center Insight
Located at the forefront of innovation, ArcelorMittal Maizieres Research is the largest research facility within the ArcelorMittal network. Our campus features four specialized laboratories focusing on distinct areas: Product, Process, Bars & Wires, and Pilote. The Digital Technologies cluster, situated within the Process Lab, is dedicated to pioneering digital and cyber-physical solutions utilizing sensors and data science for both process and product control. This cluster comprises approximately 40 professionals, including apprentices, technicians, engineers, and researchers, all committed to advancing physical models and process controls, particularly for energy-intensive operations, which are integral to our digitalization and decarbonization initiatives.
Position Overview
As a Research Engineer, your contributions will be pivotal in advancing our efforts in process decarbonization and digitalization, particularly within the framework of Industry 4.0. You will engage in two primary research domains:
- Development of Physical Thermal Models
- Enhancement of Process Control Systems
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement advanced physical thermal models to optimize and monitor furnace operations in steel production.
- Create and integrate real-time control systems.
- Lead research initiatives within various projects and provide technical support to operational plants.
- Contribute to the evolution of research activities by proposing new research directions and projects.
Candidate Profile
- Master's degree or PhD in Control Engineering, Automation, Physics, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in control engineering principles, including feedback loops, PID controllers, Model Predictive Control, and optimal controls.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab/Simulink, Fortran, or Python.
- In-depth knowledge of real-time and embedded systems.
- Understanding of thermal dynamics, heat transfer, and physical phenomena (combustion, pyrolysis, oxidation, and modeling).
- Familiarity with measurement techniques, including instrumentation and signal processing.
- Experience with Fluent or Comsol is advantageous.
- Fluent in English and French.
- Capability to conduct laboratory experiments and trials in industrial settings.
- Team-oriented with strong collaborative skills.
