OVERVIEW OF RENEWABLE GASES EUROPE

ENGIE is committed to establishing itself as a prominent entity in the 1G biomethane sector across Europe. The goal is to expand swiftly to achieve a production capacity of 10 TWh/y of biomethane by 2030.

Biomethane production initiatives are currently being pursued in various European nations, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Italy, with Spain, Portugal, and Romania also identified as key areas of interest. The strategy encompasses both greenfield developments and mergers & acquisitions, aimed at injecting biomethane into the gas grid or producing bioLNG.

POSITION WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Process Discipline Manager has a functional reporting line to the Engineering Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Process Discipline Manager is tasked with the following responsibilities:

Establish and oversee the process team:

  • Collaborate with the HR team to recruit and onboard process engineers.
  • Manage the process team across various engineering offices, focusing on mechanical, biological, and gas processes relevant to RGE activities.
  • Facilitate the development of team competencies in partnership with HR & Talents through training, hands-on experience, and career advancement.

Ensure the delivery of process engineering outputs for RGE projects:

  • Oversee the workload of the process team and ensure proper allocation of engineers to project teams throughout all project phases (development, design & procurement, construction & commissioning).
  • Conduct Preliminary, Basic & Detailed Process Design, including equipment design/specification, sizing, heat and material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, and preparation of process and equipment specifications and data sheets.
  • Review and validate contractors' and suppliers' detailed designs and commissioning plans.
  • Support project teams during construction and commissioning, addressing site queries, managing interfaces, and handling change management.
  • Ensure that plant performance is accurately calculated and aligned with the project's business plan.
  • Depending on project requirements and team size, the Discipline Manager may also undertake various process engineering tasks.

Guarantee the industrialization of RGE projects and the reliability of engineering throughout the project lifecycle:

  • Incorporate industrialization into project design by developing standard P&IDs, Hazop, etc.
  • Implement methods, processes, and tools, including digital solutions, to ensure the quality of process engineering outputs while adhering to the project's business plan, budget, and timeline.
  • Prioritize Health & Safety considerations in the design of existing and new technologies.
  • Facilitate the documentation of lessons learned and promote continuous improvement in process engineering standards and practices.

LOCATION

The position is based in La Defense, with regular travel to other engineering offices or project sites as required.

MAIN INTERACTIONS

In addition to the Engineering team, the Process Discipline Manager will engage with:

  • Management of RGE
  • RGE teams across Europe: Project Management, Industrialization, Business Development, Operations, Procurement, etc.
  • Suppliers and contractors
  • Other Group Engineering teams and Corporate Knowledge Management Team.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate for the Process Discipline Manager role should possess the following qualifications and experience:

Educational Background:

  • M.S. degree in chemical engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in process engineering roles within the energy, water, waste treatment, or process industries, particularly in an EPC contractor environment.
  • Experience in a project-oriented culture that emphasizes collaboration, agility, and innovation.
  • At least 5 years of experience in team leadership.

Language Proficiency:

  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • Knowledge of French and other languages is advantageous.

Essential Skills:

  • Leadership capabilities.
  • Experience managing multicultural teams with an understanding of cultural differences.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Familiarity with engineering entities and matrix organizations.

Specialization in gases, including biomethane and synthetic methane, while excluding hydrogen.

Experience with first-generation biomethane produced through anaerobic digestion of biomass.
