Python Backend Engineer: Full-time Position

Scientific Portfolio, a cutting-edge initiative from EDHEC Business School, is a pioneering FinTech project designed to transform the way institutional investors navigate their financial and ESG risk management. Building on the success of previous ventures like the EDHEC Risk Institute, Scientific Portfolio is committed to bridging academic insights with practical industry applications.

The Technical Team

As a Python Backend Engineer, you will collaborate with a skilled group of senior backend developers. Our team utilizes a comprehensive technical stack that includes AWS, Django, Jenkins, Ansible, ElasticSearch, Postgres, and Redis to create innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integrate financial data from diverse sources such as Morningstar, Bloomberg, Reuters, and S&P Capital IQ, along with ESG and Climate data from providers like CDP, ISS, Vigéo Eiris, Trucost, RepRisk, and Clarity AI.
  • Incorporate new tools and libraries developed by our research and development team.
  • Develop endpoints for our frontend and API services.
  • Create and manage background batch jobs to ensure data integrity.
  • Optimize system response times for improved performance.
  • Work on data automation processes, including batch and live processing.
  • Engage in SRE monitoring practices.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 3 years of software development experience with Python and a REST framework such as Django.
  • Expertise in architectural principles and tools relevant to backend applications, including monolith and microservices, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), event-driven architectures, and Backend for Frontend (BFF) patterns.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including Extreme Programming (XP), Scrum, and/or Kanban.
  • A proven track record of writing high-quality, well-tested code and proficiency in object-oriented programming.
  • Strong communication skills in English or French; a master's degree is an advantage.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial applications or FinTech, particularly in managing time series, stocks, funds, ETFs data, and risk models.
