We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of R&D Department to lead our R&D team in Chasse-sur-Rhône. As a key member of our site CODIR, you will be responsible for managing the R&D department and driving the development and scale-up of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
Main Responsibilities- Manage a team of 20 people in synthesis and analysis, ensuring effective resource allocation and achieving departmental objectives.
- Develop and propose new approaches, technologies, and innovations to improve R&D activities and stay ahead of industry trends.
- Evaluate customer requirements and opportunities for new projects and products, conducting technical assessments and presenting development strategies.
- Design and develop synthesis approaches based on technical and economic comparisons, ensuring compliance with regulations and customer requirements.
- Plan and prioritize departmental activities, ensuring effective resource usage and achieving company objectives.
- Develop and implement methodologies for process development, including Design Of Experiments and Fate & Purge.
- Ensure processes comply with internal procedures, regulations, and customer requirements, maintaining excellence in modern synthetic methods and technologies.
- Contribute to the improvement of laboratory safety, efficiency, and ways of working, supporting investigations and designing sustainability and cost reduction strategies.
- Propose technical investments required for departmental activities and manage the department's budget.
- Collaborate with other functions and sites to ensure the success and efficiency of transferred processes.
- Represent Axplora at scientific events and customer meetings, contributing to the external visibility of the company in terms of scientific excellence.
We are looking for a candidate with a PhD in Chemistry, specializing in organic chemistry, and a minimum of 15 years' experience in the API CDMO pharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing large multifunctional teams, answering Requests for Proposals, and interacting with customers. Excellent chemical knowledge and understanding, particularly in synthetic organic chemistry, are essential. Experience in route of synthesis design, process development, and regulatory requirements is also required.
The successful candidate will be a confident and customer-focused individual with excellent communication skills, able to work collaboratively as part of a diverse and international team. Bilingual in French and English, with some German a plus, is a requirement.
