Job Summary

Aventa is seeking a highly skilled Senior Umbilical Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our project team, you will be responsible for the technical follow-up of the umbilical package, ensuring that all design and engineering activities are completed to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Client Needs and Specifications: Develop specifications for suppliers, understand client needs, and ensure that all design and engineering activities meet client requirements.
  2. Supplier Interface: Interface with suppliers to evaluate proposals, support the selection of suppliers through technical evaluation, and ensure that all design and engineering activities are completed to the highest standards.
  3. Project Team Interface: Interface with project team, engineering teams, and SCM to ensure that all design and engineering activities are completed to the highest standards.
  4. Design and Engineering: Develop design dossier to demonstrate compliance of the selected design, plan, detail, and review technical documentation relating to umbilical, subsea hardware, and topside interface.
  5. Deliverables: Manage provision of deliverables such as calculations/definition for umbilical core design, determination of interfaces between CS/SCS/valves/instrumentation, medium voltage power distribution, single and 3-phase Distribution Systems and Switchgear, etc.
  6. Industry Standards and Compliance: Ensure that all design and engineering activities are completed in accordance with acknowledged industry Codes, Standards and Design Guides (e.g. API, DnV, ISO); Client Specifications and Scopes of Work.
  7. Design Documentation: Produce and check design documentation including feasibility reports, detailed design reports, construction drawings, design specifications, material take-offs, weight control calculations, etc.
  8. Project Planning and Progress: Maintain constant awareness of the overall project planning and responsible for the planning of his/her Scope of Work, ensuring progress and compliance of the supplier in close interface with SCM function.
  9. Umbilical Fabrications and Testing: Maintain an active follow-up of umbilical fabrications and testing, with ad-hoc mission to supplier premises.
  10. HSEQ and Group Procedures: Ensure that his/her work is performed in accordance with the latest HSEQ and Group procedures.
  11. Subsea-Related Disciplines: Liaise with associated subsea-related disciplines and understand the interfaces within a project.
  12. Engineering Assistance: Provide engineering assistance during mobilisations and occasional periods of offshore or site working, including FATs, SITs, Pre-commissioning, etc.
  13. Events and Meetings: Participate as required in events such as Bid Clarifications, Kick-off meetings, HIRAs, Design Reviews, etc.
  14. Mathcad and Excel: Use Mathcad and Excel to create or check project calculations.
  15. Project Audits and Reviews: Attend to project audits related to Engineering Activities as and when required, and attend to project engineering reviews as and when required.
  16. Know-how Transfer: Ensure that know-how is transferred within the discipline.
  17. Discipline Meetings: Attend to discipline meetings as required.
Qualification and Experience
  1. Engineering Degree or Equivalent: Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.
  2. Relevant Experience: Relevant experience preferably in Offshore industry and umbilical or control design.
  3. Umbilical Design Expertise: Expertise in Umbilical design and fabrication for an offshore Oil & Gas EPCI project.
  4. Past Experience: Past experience with umbilical design and fabrication process as well as reporting creation by vendors as part of a qualification program.
  5. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge on installation, on-bottom stability, routing, crossing, understand clients' needs, identify and address design parameters and problems, develop and implement solutions, independently evaluate, organise and prioritise work for self and others, undertake responsibility for production of deliverables, lead and function within a design team and across multiple projects, experience in working in a multi-disciplined systems engineering team, ability to prioritise own workload, manage time accordingly and inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget, manage interfaces within a project structure, including other disciplines, drawing office, document control, project management, client and suppliers, manage change control within own remit on a project, inform team members where constraints will affect a project in terms of programme or budget, demonstrable ability to work within time/budget constraints, ability in Vendor and 3rd Party management, ability in working in a multicultural group.
  6. Desirable Systems Knowledge: Subsea umbilical installation, flexible system design, OrcaFlex In place / Installation Analyses, offshore experience, subsea controls systems and instrumentation.
