Research Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled researcher to join our team at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). As a PhD Researcher in Electrochemical Energy Conversion, you will be responsible for developing new generation of materials used as catalysts in hydrogen fuel cells and water electrolyzers.

Project Overview

The aim of the project is to systematically investigate the transient stability of state-of-the-art catalyst materials, which are now being evaluated for commercial use, using high energy X-rays on ID31. We want to better understand the underlying principles leading to catalyst degradation, to determine the future R&D directions for hydrogen production and fuel cell technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental research on catalyst materials using high energy X-rays
  • Develop new generation of materials used as catalysts in hydrogen fuel cells and water electrolyzers
  • Collaborate with international team of scientists from academia and industry to advance science and address societal challenges

Requirements

  • Master's degree in chemistry, physics, materials science or closely related field
  • Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)
  • Proficient technical skills and genuine enthusiasm for experimental science are essential
