In the context of a collaborative project with the PEPR 5G and next-generation networks, involving a large number of French research laboratories working on networking, we are seeking a PhD researcher to explore the topic of energy-efficient quality of experience-aware beyond 5G future mobile networks.
Research ObjectivesThe main objective of this project is to investigate the balance between energy consumption and quality of experience in beyond 5G networks. We aim to develop a methodology to model the computing and network requirements of new applications in the context of B5G networks and establish the link between their requirements and needs, and the perceived quality of experience by end-users.
MethodologyWe propose to experiment with an application in various network setups and loads, then build models relating resource utilization to network traffic following a machine learning and data-driven approach. The next phase will be to showcase how the built models can help better tune the network to efficiently utilize its resources, and consequently the consumed energy, without sacrificing the end-users' quality of experience.
Expected OutcomesThe expected outcomes of this project include:
- Development of a methodology to model the computing and network requirements of new applications in the context of B5G networks
- Establishment of the link between the requirements and needs of applications and the perceived quality of experience by end-users
- Development of models relating resource utilization to network traffic
- Optimization of network resource utilization and energy consumption without sacrificing quality of experience
The recruited person will be in connection with Chadi Barakat, Frédéric Giroire, Joanna Moulierac, and Thierry Turletti. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in networking, programming, and experimentation. Proficiency in English is required.
