ArcelorMittal Maizieres ResearchArcelorMittal Maizieres Research is the world's largest research center, comprising 4 labs focused on specific areas: Product, Process, Bars & Wires, and Pilote.
The Digital Technologies cluster, part of the Process Lab, is where you'll be working. Our mission is to develop digital and cyber-physics solutions for process control and optimization, as well as product control.
With a team of around 40 people, including apprentices, technicians, engineers, and researchers, we're committed to advancing physical models and process controls, particularly for energy-intensive processes.
Your RoleAs a Research Engineer, you'll be involved in various activities related to process decarbonization and digitalization (industry 4.0), contributing to two main research axes: Physical thermal models and Process control.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and integrating advanced physical thermal models to monitor and optimize furnaces in the steel manufacturing process.
- Developing and integrating online control systems.
- Leading research activities in the framework of research projects and technical support to plants.
- Contributing to the development and renewal of activities, including proposing new research axes and projects.
We're looking for a highly skilled individual with a Master's degree or PhD in Control Engineering, Automation, Physics, or a relevant discipline.
Key requirements include:
- Solid background in control engineering (feedback loops, PID controller, Model Predictive Control, optimal controls,...).
- Computer programming skills with Matlab/Simulink, Fortran, or Python.
- Solid knowledge of real-time and embedded systems.
- Knowledge of heat transfer, thermal phenomena, and physics (combustion, pyrolysis, oxidation, physical modeling,...).
- Measurement techniques (instrumentation, signal processing).
- Knowledge of Fluent or Comsol will be a plus.
- Advanced levels of English and French.
- Ability to run laboratory experiments as well as trials in industrial plants.
- Ability to work in a team.
