Senior Legal Counsel – Insurance Sector
Context Overview:
In this role, you will be an integral part of a legal team dedicated to supporting the operations of AXA Group within the insurance industry, addressing a variety of legal issues on both domestic and international fronts.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will encompass:
· Serving as the main liaison and functioning as a genuine "Business Partner" for multiple underwriting divisions;
· Offering underwriters, middle office personnel, and risk advisors solutions that align with legal requirements while catering to the specific needs of AXA Group's clientele and partners;
· Independently overseeing various projects and adhering to deadlines;
· Assisting AXA Group teams with intricate legal challenges;
· Supporting AXA Group's international cross-functional teams (including Underwriting Delegation Governance and Claims Delegation Governance);
· Reviewing and approving a range of technical contractual documents (such as confidentiality agreements, mandates, co-reinsurance agreements, brokerage protocols, and commercial contracts);
· Providing local support for the initiatives of the APAC Europe / Global Legal team.
· Acting as a subject matter expert and mentoring junior team members;
· Assisting the Senior Legal Counsel for France with various complex projects and inquiries;
· Supporting the Senior Legal Counsel for France on regulatory matters concerning supervisory requirements set by relevant authorities;
· Monitoring legal and regulatory changes, particularly in insurance and distribution regulations, contract law, financial crime regulations, and other pertinent areas affecting AXA Group's operations;
· Participating in the training of underwriters, underwriting assistants, and claims handlers within the organization;
· Overseeing legal activities conducted by external legal advisors;
Reporting Structure
You will report directly to the Senior Legal Counsel for France.
Desired Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications:
· 8 - 10 years of professional experience as a legal practitioner, either in-house or in private practice;
· A Master’s degree in Private Law, with a preference for specialization in insurance law;
· Expertise in insurance law (including global program knowledge) and related litigation;
· Native proficiency in French, with strong English language skills, both written and spoken; knowledge of an additional regional language is advantageous;
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities;
· Proactive mindset, capability to work autonomously, and a collaborative spirit within a diverse team;
· Quick comprehension skills, along with analytical, conceptual, and creative thinking abilities;
· Intellectual curiosity, meticulous attention to detail, and teaching aptitude;
· Open-mindedness and a strong team-oriented approach;
· Exceptional analytical and synthesis capabilities.
