Research Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). The successful candidate will be part of the LECOR project, which aims to refine compositional models of the Earth's inner core.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct experiments to determine the elastic and plastic properties of iron-bearing alloys and compounds at high-pressure-temperature conditions.
  • Collaborate with the team of the Nuclear Resonance Scattering (ID14) beamline to advance our understanding of the Earth's core.
  • Develop and implement new experimental techniques to investigate the behavior of materials under extreme conditions.

Requirements

  • Hold a degree allowing enrollment for a PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a closely related field.
  • Have experience in high-pressure, solid-state physics, nuclear resonance scattering, x-ray diffraction, and/or other synchrotron techniques.
  • Be proficient in English and computational skills.

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be enrolled in a PhD program at a university and will be employed by the ESRF for a period of two years, renewable for one year.
