Innovative Process Modeling Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY
The selected candidate will engage in cutting-edge process modeling initiatives. A strong technical background in computer science, materials science, engineering, and related fields is essential to conceptualize and spearhead intricate technical projects that are both transformational and cross-functional.
JOB SCOPE
This role is situated within the Process Innovation team, which operates under the Science & Technology division of the Refractory, Abrasives, and Construction business area. The team is dedicated to advancing process innovation for RAC and may extend its expertise to the broader IMERYS group.
The primary responsibility will involve contributing to the Precize project, focusing on the process modeling component. The engineer will collaborate closely with various S&T departments, industrial partners, and academic institutions to ensure the success of the project.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to prepare for process modeling and propose innovative research programs.
- Establish and nurture relationships with S&T departments and universities to gather essential physical data for modeling.
- Execute advanced modeling studies related to combustion, heat transfer, dissolution, and gas/liquid transfer.
- Participate in industrial and pilot testing to validate modeling outcomes through measurement, feeding results back into the model for continuous improvement.
- Challenge suppliers and modeling firms to align with project objectives regarding technical model selection and parameter interpretation.
- Collaborate with the IT department to recommend software solutions that meet scientific requirements.
- Occasional travel within the country may be necessary (less than 5% of the time).
- Support Imerys' Safety and Health strategy and contribute to achieving associated targets.
General Team Responsibilities:
- Interpret, assess, and communicate research data and findings for various projects.
- Coordinate and participate in cross-functional teams for complex and innovative projects.
- Document research results through detailed reports.
- Attend technical conferences and maintain active awareness of developments in the field.
- Perform process engineering modeling tasks.
- Develop and execute laboratory test plans.
- Analyze data and formulate scientific hypotheses.
- Exhibit project and transversal management capabilities to lead technical teams.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Science, Mechanical, Chemical, or Materials Engineering, or a related discipline, with expertise in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, combustion, kinetics, and/or process engineering.
- Experience in heat and mass balance for complex systems.
- Proficiency in advanced modeling tools such as:
- OpenFOAM
- Ansys Fluent
- StarCCM+
- Ability to design geometric and mesh configurations for process simulations.
- Knowledge of multiphase media simulation with heat transfer.
- Familiarity with computational thermodynamics and phase transformations.
- Advanced scripting and tool development skills in Python.
- Capability to create simplified models (0D/1D/2D) using proprietary code.
