Job Opportunity

The French Ministry for Higher Education and Research is seeking a Chairperson to lead the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing evaluation processes and increasing their impact on the higher education and research ecosystem.

The Chairperson will be appointed by decree signed by the President of the French Republic for a once-renewable four-year term. The position is incompatible with functions mentioned in article 10 of the French Law no. 2017-55 of 20 January 2017.

The Chairperson shall send a declaration of assets and liabilities and a declaration of interest to the Haute Autorité pour la transparence de la vie publique within two months of taking office.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to promote scientific integrity in evaluations and evaluate measures promoting equality between women and men in organizations contributing to the higher education public service.

  • Evaluating higher education bodies and their groupings, research bodies, scientific cooperation foundations, and private not-for-profit legal entities under contract with the French State.
  • Evaluating research structures and units at the request of the legal entity to which they belong.
  • Evaluating initial training courses delivered and qualifications issued by higher education bodies.
  • Ensuring that all tasks assigned to higher education and research staff are taken into account in their appraisals.
  • Evaluating major national research infrastructures and any structure created under private law receiving public funds for research or higher education.
  • Evaluating the dissemination activity of scientific, technical and industrial culture within institutions and research structures.
