Department Overview

This role is responsible for the strategic oversight, management, and leadership of the Safety Division. The individual will develop and execute sustainable safety practices and management systems throughout the organization. They will ensure adherence to relevant local, state, and federal regulations while serving as the subject matter expert on safety matters within the company.

This position is multifaceted and requires effective collaboration across various departments, providing guidance and direction to different teams within the organization. The individual will establish the cultural tone of the department, ensuring that team members are treated with fairness and respect while achieving their objectives. Continuous improvement of Newrest's operational, quality, and safety standards will be a key focus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Formulate, implement, and uphold safety and security policies and procedures in line with regulatory standards and industry best practices. Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local laws and codes governing environmental health and safety in daily operations. Drive ongoing improvements in environmental, health, safety, and security through the application and certification of Newrest's policies. Facilitate safety training programs for employees at all levels to promote understanding of safety protocols and regulatory compliance. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential risks and implement corrective measures to mitigate them. Oversee the investigation of accidents and incidents, prepare reports, recommend enhancements to prevent future occurrences, and manage risk analysis documentation. Develop and execute emergency response strategies, conducting drills and training sessions to prepare staff for potential emergencies. Ensure adherence to OSHA regulations and other relevant safety laws as required. Act as the primary contact for all safety-related inquiries and concerns, promoting open dialogue regarding safety issues. Supervise and lead a team of safety professionals, optimizing daily tasks to safeguard the well-being of employees and assets.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma is required. A Bachelor's degree in Operations, Logistics, Business Management, or a related field is strongly preferred. 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing, logistics, or the food industry managing a workforce of 100+ non-exempt employees. Must be able to work outdoors in varying temperatures and environments. A valid active Driver's License is required. Must be able to pass all necessary airport security clearances.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Proven leadership experience, particularly in start-up or turnaround environments. Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with employees from non-exempt to upper management levels. Strong understanding of logistics and fleet operations. Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and operational processes. Solid knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards.
