Your Role: Advancing Geoscientific Research
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to our cutting-edge multiresolution X-ray uCT and 4D X-ray uCT research at beamlines BM18 and BM05. Your work will encompass a diverse range of subjects, from polar sea ice and volcanic lavas to fluid flow in earthquake-related experiments, rock compression, carbon storage, hydrogen production, sustainable industrial practices, and low-carbon production.
State-of-the-Art Facilities and Techniques
At BM05 and BM18, you'll have access to the most advanced, automated, and stable imaging techniques. These include multiresolution capabilities ranging from hundreds of microns to a third of a micron resolution, as well as various sample environments for in-situ scanning across a wide range of temperatures and pressures up to 5 km depth. Soon, dedicated devices for long-term recurrent scans of samples during slow dynamic processes will be integrated into our portfolio.
Your Responsibilities: Research, Collaboration, and Support
- Develop your own independent research projects, from experimental design to publication in scientific journals.
- Provide essential support to external users in the field of Geosciences.
- Actively participate in the daily operations of the beamlines and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Serve as a local contact for users during beamtime, including occasional evening and weekend support.
Qualifications: Expertise and Enthusiasm
- PhD in Geosciences, Geophysics, Materials Science, Engineering, or Physics obtained within the last 3 years.
- A strong desire to conduct independent research, encompassing all stages from experimental conception to publication.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse teams and external collaborators.
- Hands-on experience with X-ray imaging techniques (radiography and micro-CT).
- A dedicated and meticulous approach to experimental work and instrumentation.
- Prior experience at a research infrastructure facility or familiarity with synchrotron techniques would be highly advantageous.
- Proficiency in English is essential, as it is the working language at ESRF.
- Coding skills are desirable but not mandatory.
