Overview
In response to the global energy transition challenge, John Cockerill has established a collaborative venture in China focused on the design, production, and installation of pressurized alkaline electrolyzers. A gigafactory dedicated to electrolyzer manufacturing is currently being developed in Europe, with plans for additional facilities in various international locations.
As part of the R&D division within the Hydrogen Business Line, you will play a crucial role in advancing innovative solutions aligned with our product and technology strategies. This role is specifically linked to the Materials team, where your expertise will significantly influence the foundational technology of our alkaline electrolyzers. The position necessitates occasional travel and onsite presence at our facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate, comprehend, and enhance specific mechanisms within pressurized alkaline electrolyzers that affect performance and functionality, particularly focusing on components such as rings, seals, and electrode coatings.
- Establish testing methodologies.
- Evaluate, interpret, and summarize experimental data.
- Contribute to the development and safeguarding of Intellectual Property.
- Act as a primary liaison with research institutions and suppliers.
- Collaborate proactively with stack designers to ensure seamless integration of components within the stack.
Profile
Master's or Doctorate in material sciences, industrial chemistry, electrochemistry, or chemistry.
- A minimum of three years of professional experience in a comparable role within a research facility, academic institution, or industry.
- In-depth knowledge of advanced materials (including polymers, synthetics, ceramics, composites, and catalysts) along with experience in designing and testing protocols for pressurized systems and data analysis.
- Prior experience with fuel cells, electrolyzers, flow batteries, or electrochemical devices is advantageous.
- Strong skills in material characterization techniques (such as SEM, XPS, mechanical testing, etc.).
- Familiarity with fluid mechanics is a plus.
- Practical laboratory skills are beneficial.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills in English; knowledge of French is a plus.
- Analytical mindset, team-oriented, problem-solving abilities, hands-on approach, and self-sufficiency.
- Capability to establish and adhere to timelines while managing multiple projects concurrently.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills.
