Our Engineering DepartmentThe Bureau of Technology (BoT) is at the heart of Back Market, consisting of over 30 dynamic product teams developing and managing services to deliver significant value to our customers and suppliers. Our Platform group supports these teams with more than 10 specialized teams addressing cross-cutting technical issues to enhance our operational capabilities.
About the RoleWe're seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead our Data Platform squad (10 engineers) within the Platform division. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for mentoring and coaching people, cultivating a collaborative team, leading delivery, production operations, and continuous improvement.
Main Technical ChallengesWe're undergoing a radical transformation from a monolith to a distributed and service-oriented architecture. This transition provides an opportunity to modernize the platform, raising engineering standards. Building a set of efficient and loosely coupled services is one of the main challenges to face for the years to come.
Our Technical EnvironmentWe're using a range of technologies, including Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Celery, Golang, Django, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and BigQuery. Our infrastructure includes GCP, Kubernetes (GKE), Docker, Datadog, and ArgoCD/CircleCI/Github.
What You'll Do- Lead a collaborative team in delivering great software that our customers and sellers will love.
- Collaborate with the product group and other tribes to align the team with company objectives and initiatives across engineering and the wider business.
- Ensure the development of people and teams through ongoing coaching and mentoring.
- Create a team environment where team members feel like they belong and are supported to do their best work.
- Establish open communication and a culture of feedback between team members.
- Work in an agile build it and run it environment where engineering teams build, launch, monitor, and support the sections they own.
- Work with the team to identify and make improvements in our processes, practices, and product.
- Support teams in increasing delivery proficiency by creating a learning environment.
- You have experience and passion for growing, developing, and guiding people.
- You're open to receiving and giving feedback in a safe workplace.
- You're interested in working in an environment where leaders support their teams to do great work, by removing impediments, finding improvements, and facilitating effective decision-making.
- You have enthusiasm about reaching new levels of effectiveness (and quality).
- You have a background as an individual contributor and willingness to help when the team needs it.
- You have good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- You're excited to learn about how our industry works and the impact we bring to our customers and the world.
- You're able to understand the tech challenges of your team and guide them through decisions.
- You have experience working in agile development teams with some knowledge of our following tech.
- A past experience in finance or payment would be a very strong asset.
- You like to work in the office because it's a hybrid position (2 days per week in the office).
