Job Description

Job Title: Préparateur en biologie

Job Type: CDD Technique/Administratif

Duration: 5 mois

Location: GRENOBLE

Job Summary:

Join our team at the Institute of Structural Biology (IBS) as a Biologist Laboratory Technician. As a key member of our support team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our two common laundries and autoclaves. You will work closely with our research laboratories and groups to provide them with the necessary equipment for their experiments.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect and wash laboratory dishes, and then dry and recondition them for redistribution to the laboratories.
  • Stérilize by autoclaving clean flasks and culture media for sterile experimentation, as well as biological solid and liquid waste before disposal.
  • Maintain the good functioning of the laundry machines and autoclaves, managing necessary maintenance interventions with suppliers.
  • Manage the weekly cleaning of laboratory coats (10 to 30 coats depending on needs): collection, sending to laundry, redistribution to laboratories.
  • Manage the stocks of consumable products necessary for the operation of the laundry and autoclaves (detergents, washing machine neutralizer, salts...).
  • Prepare damaged glassware for repair and send it to the supplier.
  • Respect established procedures and protocols.
  • Prioritize tasks and organize your activity, taking into account constraints and deadlines.
  • Apply hygiene and safety rules related to the use of autoclaves, waste, glassware, and chemicals.
  • Ensure the backup of the IBS reception: telephone and physical reception of IBS visitors and assist staff in receiving and sending mail and packages.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of dry and wet sterilization rules and the use of sterilization and laundry equipment (authorization to operate autoclaves).
  • Knowledge of hygiene and safety rules on the activity perimeter (dry and wet sterilization, safety symbols and pictograms...) would be an asset (notably authorization to operate autoclaves) but the necessary training will be provided by IBS.
  • Basic notions of mathematical calculation (dilution, rule of three).
  • Good interpersonal skills with research teams.
  • Sense of service.
  • Team spirit.
  • Appreciation for work, rigorous in the realization of activities.
  • Ability to alert in case of need and report to your hierarchy.

Work Context:

The Institute of Structural Biology (IBS) is a major national and international player in the field of integrated structural biology. As a mixed research unit (CEA-CNRS-UGA), IBS is composed of 21 research groups, each offering a multi-disciplinary approach, at the borders of biology, physics, and chemistry, in line with 3 research axes and relying on a dozen technological platforms attached to the research groups.

Our team is committed to providing a safe and inclusive work environment. We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates.
