OVERVIEW OF RENEWABLE GASES EUROPE

ENGIE is committed to establishing itself as a frontrunner in 1G biomethane production across Europe, with an ambitious goal of achieving 10 TWh/y of biomethane production capacity by 2030.

Currently, biomethane production initiatives are underway in various European countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Poland, and Italy, with Spain, Portugal, and Romania also identified as key areas for development. The strategy encompasses both greenfield projects and mergers & acquisitions, aimed at injecting biomethane into the gas grid or producing bioLNG.

POSITION WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Process Discipline Manager will have a functional reporting line to the Engineering Director.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Process Discipline Manager will oversee the following responsibilities:

Establish and lead the process engineering team:

Collaborate with the HR team to recruit and onboard process engineers. Manage the process engineering team across various engineering offices, covering all types of mechanical, biological, and gas processes relevant to RGE activities. Coordinate with HR & Talents to ensure the development of team competencies through training, hands-on experience, and career progression.

Ensure the timely delivery of process engineering outputs for RGE projects:

Oversee team workload and the effective allocation of engineers to project teams at all project phases (development, design & procurement, construction & commissioning), including:
  • Conducting Preliminary, Basic & Detailed Process Design, including equipment design, specifications, and sizing, as well as producing heat and material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, and commissioning and operating manuals.
  • Reviewing and validating detailed designs and plans from contractors and suppliers for commissioning and testing.
  • Providing support during construction and commissioning phases, addressing site queries, managing interfaces, and handling change management.
  • Ensuring that plant performance aligns with the project's business objectives.
Depending on project requirements and team size, the Discipline Manager may also undertake various process engineering tasks directly.

Guarantee the industrialization of RGE projects and engineering reliability throughout the project lifecycle:

Incorporate industrialization principles into project design, developing standard P&IDs, Hazop, etc. Implement methods, processes, and tools, including digital solutions, to ensure the quality of process engineering outputs while adhering to the project's business plan, budget, and timeline. Prioritize Health & Safety considerations in the design of existing and new technologies. Facilitate the capitalization of lessons learned and promote continuous improvement in process engineering standards and practices.

LOCATION

The position is based in La Defense, with regular travel to other engineering offices or project sites across Europe as required.

KEY INTERACTIONS

In addition to the Engineering team, the Process Discipline Manager will collaborate with:

Management of RGE RGE teams across Europe: Project Management, Industrialization, Business Development, Operations, Procurement, etc. Suppliers and contractors Other Group Engineering teams and the Group Corporate Knowledge Management Team

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for the Process Discipline Manager role will possess the following qualifications and experience:

Educational Background and Experience:

Master's degree in chemical engineering or a related field. A minimum of 15 years of experience in process engineering roles within the energy, water, waste treatment, or process industries, preferably in an EPC contractor environment. Experience in a project-oriented culture that emphasizes collaboration, agility, and innovation. At least 5 years of experience in team leadership.

Language Proficiency:

Fluency in English is required. Proficiency in French and other languages is advantageous.

Key Skills:

Strong leadership capabilities. Experience managing multicultural teams with an understanding of cultural nuances. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Familiarity with engineering entities and matrix organizations. Proficient in change management, with an open-minded approach to transformation. Able to thrive in complex and dynamic environments. Demonstrates professionalism, ethics, fairness, and trustworthiness.

Expertise in gases, including biomethane and synthetic methane, while excluding hydrogen.

Knowledge of first-generation biomethane produced through anaerobic digestion of biomass.
