Position Overview

Evotec is seeking a Head of Strategic Partnerships to enhance our Business Development team. In this capacity, the selected candidate will report directly to the Vice President (VP) of Business Development based in the UK. The individual will assist the VP in assessing and establishing strategic alliances throughout Western Europe. The successful candidate will be instrumental in commercializing Evotec's assets and technologies while fostering impactful and valuable strategic R&D collaborations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the VP of Business Development to formulate and implement the overall business development strategy within the designated territory.
  • Further position Evotec as the preferred partner within the region.
  • Drive new business revenue with existing partners and cultivate new business relationships within the area.
  • Secure and maintain business for Evotec through professional, consultative, and proactive engagement with decision-makers and influencers at potential partners.
  • Establish Evotec as a primary or preferred provider for all discovery and development services, particularly focusing on supporting Evotec's discovery offerings.
  • Engage with scientific operations and marketing teams to finalize new business and develop long-term partnerships.
  • Foster positive and collaborative interactions with the global business development team.

Essential Competencies and Attributes:

  • Profound understanding of the drug discovery and development continuum, with a strong preference for expertise in drug discovery.
  • Proven experience in negotiating complex agreements, including research funding, milestones, royalties, or equity arrangements.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional teams to drive innovative solutions.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Established network within large pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, and venture capitalists.
  • Ability to evaluate partner needs and deliver recommendations through effective written and verbal presentations.
  • Demonstrated success in account management and a proven track record in structuring, negotiating, and executing agreements with various life science partners.
  • Analytical skills: Capable of reading, analyzing, and interpreting data to produce supporting reports and documents.
  • Proficient in identifying leads, assessing the value of new business opportunities, and closing deals.
  • Solid technical background combined with professional business development experience.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated business acumen with a proactive approach to addressing business challenges.
  • Self-motivated and driven to achieve objectives.
  • Capable of making sound business decisions and resolving issues effectively.
  • Able to lead the business development process, coordinate multinational teams, and support negotiations to finalize agreements.
  • Persuasive and effective in negotiations.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt; open to change.

Educational Background:

  • Minimum of a BSc, MSc, or PhD in a Life Sciences discipline.
  • Preference for 5-10 years of technical experience in a pharmaceutical/biotech or management consulting environment, with at least 5 years of proven business development success.
  • Demonstrated history of success in business development, including large and complex partnership and/or licensing transactions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the drug discovery and development process.
