Director of Digital Systems

Evotec WD is in search of a Digital visionary who will establish the Digital team, culture, and frameworks necessary to develop and enhance a premier digitally-enabled platform for the advancement and production of sophisticated biopharmaceutical products.
This position demands a collaborative leader adept at assembling and guiding cross-functional teams composed of personnel and contract service providers to install, configure, deploy, validate, and oversee the comprehensive suite of Digital systems essential for supporting product and process development, GMP manufacturing operations, and business functions. The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, working closely with functional leaders and stakeholders to thoroughly understand their requirements, ensuring the delivery of essential Digital operational capabilities at the outset and progressively enhancing Digital maturity through significant improvements in process optimization, manufacturing automation, team efficiency, cost reduction, and value-generating business insights. The successful applicant will possess strategic insight, exceptional communication skills, proven management experience in Digital operations within a GMP environment, and the ability to foster operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the installation, configuration, deployment, validation, daily operations, and lifecycle management of both on-premise and cloud-based Digital systems required for product and process development, GMP manufacturing, and business operations.
- Report to the VP for Digitization and participate as a member of the Digital Governance Team, while also holding operational accountability to the Site Head for Manufacturing.
- Build and lead a high-performing Digital workforce at Evotec WD, including staff, contingent workers, and contract service providers.
- Establish and chair the Digital Governance Team, comprising cross-functional stakeholders, and develop a charter outlining roles and responsibilities for Digital systems governance.
- Represent the organization in the formulation and execution of the Digital Capability Roadmap.
- Advocate for a digital-first culture that emphasizes: Customer Centricity, Innovation, Data-driven Decision Making, Collaboration, Open Culture, Digital Mindset, Agility, and Flexibility.
- Deliver exceptional Digital services aimed at enabling all functions to fulfill mission objectives.
- Develop and manage the budget for Digital systems, personnel, and contracted services.
- Oversee all stages of acquisition, configuration, implementation, validation, and lifecycle management of Digital systems.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of Digital systems, including documentation of user requirements, design specifications, and current configurations.
- Implement design, configuration, and operational controls to ensure continuous validation of Digital systems utilized for GMP operations.
- Establish design, configuration, and operational controls to maintain robust cybersecurity measures.
- Identify, communicate, and manage risks associated with Digital systems, operations, and projects.
- Cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate successful outcomes for operations.
- Stay informed about emerging digital trends and technologies, evaluating their potential applications to enhance competitive advantage.
Position Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline, such as Computer Science, Engineering, or Life Sciences.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in Digital leadership roles within GMP manufacturing environments.
- Proven experience in leading large-scale Digital system startups and transformation initiatives.
- Strong business acumen coupled with strategic thinking capabilities.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to influence and drive change across all organizational levels.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience in leading and managing teams effectively.
- Knowledge of biologics manufacturing and supply chain operations.
- Familiarity with emerging digital trends and technologies.
