CONTEXT

Reforest'Action is actively engaging with the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) to harness carbon finance for the advancement of forest-centric initiatives that benefit communities, ecosystems, and the climate.

The VCM serves as a financial mechanism aimed at directing investments towards mitigation strategies, including the enhancement of natural carbon reservoirs. It empowers individuals and organizations to fund Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) projects that demonstrate tangible carbon removal outcomes. With projections indicating a 15-fold growth in the VCM by 2030, the demand for forest-based initiatives is propelling the expansion of our reforestation and afforestation efforts.

In this dynamic environment, Reforest'Action is on the lookout for a Lead Carbon Project Strategist to support the Certified Carbon Project team in securing AFOLU project certification in alignment with VCM standards (VCS, Gold standards, VCS + CCB).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversee operational, technical, and strategic aspects of a diverse project portfolio

Guide and assist the project team throughout the entire development lifecycle.

Manage various technical dimensions of project development, including design, certification, monitoring, and financial management from the initial opportunity phase to full implementation.

Ensure the operational success and certification of a portfolio of AFOLU projects.

Lead strategic interactions with project implementers.

Validate and take ownership of all project deliverables.

Provide technical insights to support commercial initiatives for project promotion and funding.

  1. Contribute to the structuring and enhancement of the Climate Solutions team on project-related matters:

Manage project portfolios with a focus on geographical distribution, project types, and prioritization.

Enhance project development processes through optimization, due diligence, monitoring, business planning, and financial analysis.

  1. Support the structuring and development of the Climate Solutions team on non-project-related matters:

Coordinate with sales and operations teams to ensure clear role distribution.

Facilitate team skills development and training initiatives.

Reflect on the positioning of the Climate Solutions offerings, including marketing and sales strategies.

Assist the Sales & Business Development Department with proposal development.

Engage in recruitment activities.

Monitor developments in Carbon / VCM initiatives.

Represent the organization in technical working groups and conferences.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing large-scale projects for the VCM (VCS/Gold standard), preferably in tropical regions.
  2. Proven experience in team leadership within a project framework (1 to 5 team members).
  3. Field experience in ARR project development, including stakeholder engagement, contract negotiations, due diligence, business planning, and operational execution.
  4. In-depth knowledge of certification methodologies (ARR, IFM, etc.).
