JOB SUMMARY
The Construction Vendor Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing the timeline and workflow of Consultants, General Contractors (GC), and supply chain partners, aiming to identify, secure, and enhance the value derived from our vendors in Design & Construction (D&C) initiatives. This position involves cultivating and sustaining relationships with vendors while assisting in the enhancement of their capabilities to deliver high-quality projects safely, punctually, and within budget constraints, with a focus on establishing long-term partnerships.
Ideal candidates will exhibit a strong sense of ownership, a proactive approach, and high motivation, possessing experience in Project or Contracts Management within the construction sector. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of Amazon's construction projects and a commitment to collaborating closely with consultants, General Contractors, and internal teams such as Procurement, Pre-construction, and Construction.
We seek individuals who are passionate self-starters, decisive, and capable of swiftly implementing ideas while building robust relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Candidates should be highly analytical, able to interconnect vendor metrics, and assess them against established KPIs. Proven experience in the construction industry and a history of achieving results in fast-paced, dynamic environments while balancing the sometimes conflicting needs of various stakeholder groups are essential.
This role offers the opportunity to travel and engage with diverse cultures, with a base location in major European cities and approximately 25% travel to other EMEA countries.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain the Vendor Strategy for GCs and Consultants in collaboration with the Procurement Team.
- Possess the technical acumen to create KPIs for assessing vendor performance.
- Conduct metric analysis, utilizing vendor data to derive insights and evaluate key metrics against organizational objectives for informed decision-making.
- Formulate methods to gather and synchronize feedback on Developers, GCs, Consultants, and supply chain vendors by monitoring performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist the Pre-construction Manager and Procurement during the tendering process.
- Oversee external vendors and support internal teams to ensure the successful delivery of CAPEX projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Manage vendor claims and escalations, delve into technical details, and lead problem resolution while safeguarding Amazon's interests, driving process enhancements, and capturing lessons learned to maintain productive vendor relationships.
- Support the management of critical path schedule items and escalate potential risks and delays to leadership.
- Act as a business partner with Procurement, Pre-Construction, and Construction teams, driving the execution of commercial and technical deliverables.
- Collaborate closely with Pre-construction, Construction, and Project Delivery Teams to support sourcing efforts for General Contractors and Consultants, ensuring adequate capacity in the region.
- Identify opportunities and provide insights to automate and streamline processes to enhance productivity.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- A university degree in civil engineering or architecture.
- Demonstrated project management experience in construction or contracts management.
- Strong analytical skills with a proficiency in data-driven analysis.
- Proficient in Excel and other software tools for delivering vendor metrics and conducting analyses.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for project-related activities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Cross-functional experience, particularly in procurement, planning, cost control, contracts, or project management.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, including macros, database management, QuickSight, or similar software.
- Experience in contract management (FIDIC, NEC, JTC, etc.), drafting contracts, or legal correspondence is advantageous.
- Previous experience in technical or management roles on construction sites is a plus.
- Proficiency in German, French, Polish, Arabic, or Turkish is considered a preferred qualification.
